Why do people keep saying there are no aliens in red dwarf? Have you only seen one season?
I have seen all the seasons, watched the bonus materials, read the books, and explored tons of extended media for my presentations for conventions.
The last time I heard one of the creators discuss the show earlier this year, it led to the conclusion that, technically, even Rimmer can be considered an alien because he is not from Earth. But that in fact, everything in the show originates from Earth or is human-made.
According to the books, the human race attempted to find life in space but failed to discover any intelligent life or even living organisms. In another book, it's mentioned that Rimmer's son was sent into space with the GELFS and droids produced by humans to locate and terraform a new home for the human race. And these expeditions are how these species got into space.
Lastly, in the episode Krysis, the universe itself states that it has created only one planet with intelligent life.
So, while generations of people, mutants and droids were not born or made on Earth and are technically aliens to us, they are not aliens as a species that evolved independently on another planet.

UPDATE - It turns out Craig said a lot more than was initially published. It's interesting and somewhat more optimistic as it seems the cost issue may be with one specific story Doug wants to tell.
“It was never done on the cheap, Red Dwarf, [but] now you can make things look so much better for so much cheaper. “Hopefully the stars will align and we’ll get it done because we all want to do it. The script is great. “I can’t really tell you much about the script, but it’s very Lister-heavy and it involves a lot of this new AI technology and stuff like that.” “I really wanted to make it,” Charles continued. “It’s an absolutely stunning script, and the bits that we’ve seen in mock-ups that we’ve we’ve mocked together, it just looks stunning.” Charles went on to hint that the new episodes could involve Lister coming face-to-face with his younger self, saying: “I don’t know if this is giving anything away, but if you think that it’s me at the age of 60 acting against me at the age of 23… it looks stunning, you’re like, ‘F**king hell, how did they do that?!’ “But can we afford to make it? That’s the big thing.”
PLEASE let this get made. It sounds great.
Reminds me of one interview with Doug where he mentioned the idea of using CGI to make Craig younger as one possible way to bring Lister's sons back

Flew to the UK to see Craig’s DJ set (for dunno how many times) and I just have to appreciate all the Red Dwarf references at his current tour

The current model of the Red Dwarf and Lister jacket from the BBC era is easy to recognize. Then there's this RD poster, also easy to spot, but have you noticed that’s based on the first VHS release? 👀 Tbh designs of RD VHS tapes overall were over the top.

Day 2: Favourite Main Spaceship (Red Dwarf, Blue Midget or StarBug)
Tbh as someone from outside the UK for me was the long CGI one the first version of the ship I ever saw. Cuz apart from S8, this version was used also in the '90s remaster which was sold nationwide
But did you know?
The CGI model is based on a real one more than 3 meters long model? It was just so big, but the budget was tight they couldn't pay for a studio so big to fit the model and filming tech
We have only one full model shot of the model
Years later the model was cut in a half, put back together and is used in shorter versions to this day
Watching the red dwarf episode commentaries and genuinely Craig and Chris really are the true Rimster shippers lmaoo
Craig and Chris comparing Lister and Rimmer to a married couple (and even saying that there’s a universe where they are married) is one of my fav things to listen to. No matter where they say it XD
