Due to circumstances beyond my control, the podcast is currently on a break. However, I'm using this time to update our Youtube archive as we gradually emerge from deep sleep like Lister.

I'm pleased to say that the whole of Series VI is now once more publicly available. "Psirens" and "Legion" with @sunnysideeggers , "Gunmen Of The Apocalypse" and "Emohawk: Polymorph II" with @arcanemoody and "Rimmerworld" and "Out Of Time" with @veronica-rich .

Love that all the other cats have names but Cat is just Cat. Like in the books it’s explained as cats being really self centered as a species but in the show and movie that doesn’t work cause the other cats have names. I like to think he just saw the opportunity to fuck with Lister and Rimmer or he’s just so vain that he saw all the other cats leave and was just like: well, those guys are all dead so now I am the Entire Species.

I always saw it as he just never had a name until he met Lister and Rimmer. Don’t forget Lister is the first person to call him Cat in The End after Holly explains what happened to Frankenstein. And the only other felis sapien we see the Cat interact with prior to The Promised Land was the Cat Priest, who called him boy. We know he was an orphaned when he was very young and that he basically had to educate himself. We also know that the only felis sapiens that were left on Red Dwarf were the sick and the lame. So I honestly think everyone died before he was even given a proper name, and he took the name Cat because Lister was the first person he met who actually stuck around long enough to care for him.

As funny and shallow as the Cat is, he’s actually a really sad character if you think about it. Especially when you look at episodes like The Inquisitor and Back To Reality where his only self worth comes solely from his appearance. Is it no wonder when you realise he has had no friends or family until he met Lister and Rimmer? When you stop to consider how lonely he must have been, wandering that big empty ship all by himself for years with no one to talk to except himself and his shadow. He even taught himself roller skating in Me2 in the hopes that he might one day meet and impress a lady cat. And it can’t be a coincidence that all his sex fantasies involve multiple women. Beneath all the dancing, bravado and fine clothes is someone incredibly lonely and deeply insecure. Who needs constant validation from an audience and fusses over his looks because deep down he’s terrified that one day he’ll be abandoned like he was before.

Alright help me out here. Was there like an interview or con panel where either Naylor or Grant described Holly as genderfluid or along those lines or did I hallucinate that? I can't find it anywhere.
