“I know it’s not the case, but with the business of the past week it feels as though it’s been forever since we’ve met up.” Usually, Zaria and herself met up at least weekly to see one another and fall into meaningful conversation that reached depths Diana couldn’t find with anyone else. However, with classes beginning for fall semester, she had been so swamped in preparations that it had felt like a lifetime since she’d had quality time, let alone seen, her longtime friend. The latest season of their podcast was in the middle of it’s airing schedule, but even the small break from that didn’t mean there was much to do when considering all of her interests and ventures. “So let’s have some drinks and eat great food as usual, overstay at this restaurant with a view, and maybe somewhere in there we narrow down the next season of From Yesterday.” With a smile curving her lips, a hand reached for Zaria’s to give an affectionate squeeze. “How are you? I know you’re just as busy as I am, if not more. We should’ve taken a summer vacation and I’m actually regretting it a bit now that we didn’t.”
Zaria looked up, gaze settling on Diana’s features. She was right, it had been too long since they’d had a chance to connect outside of work, maybe not that long but there was never a lack of need for some girl time, especially when it came to catching up with her best friend. Their shared business had been booming and taking over the social aspect of their friendship it seemed, however. “That sounds like a plan to me, but one of these days we’re going to skip the shop talk altogether and enjoy some mindless chatter, maybe when things slow down a bit. Anyway, where’s this place with a view that we’re going to wear out our welcome?” She asked, simultaneously and repeatedly clicking the top of her favorite pen, an annoyingly nervous habit of sorts. Catching herself, she tossed the pen in her satchel then turned her attention back to Diana, a certain calmness settling over at the sensation of her friends touch. “I’m alright, busy like you said, but I’m dealing,” she replied.
“You’re right about that trip, we should have just shut everything down for a bit and just taken off to catch a few sunrises someplace exotic,” she replied, returning the squeeze to Di’s hand, then gave her a thoughtful look. “Is it too late do you think? Maybe we could a weekend getaway instead...how tight is your schedule over the next few weeks?” Getting away for a quick weekend wasn’t a big deal for Zaria. Most of the contract work she did was done remotely anyway with the occasional face to face check in to Langley or DC. These days, however, Zaria preferred to keep things simple and was taking fewer contracts and focusing more on the business she and Di had been building. It was just exciting to be in a position where she could finally focus on her passions and being paid insanely well to do what she loved while in excellent company. “I’m thinking something lavish like a spa or maybe some no holds barred shopping in New York. What do you think?”
