hi everyone! i’m ann & i’m new to the community but very excited to be here!!

like i said, i’m ann! my full pen name is ann padilla. i’m a 20-yr-old brown caribbean latine, and my pronouns are she/her. right now i’m in my third year of studying linguistics. i have an rp/literature blog over at @darkljngs​ & that is my url on basically every social media possible (my brand, if u will).

my favorite genres, as well as the one i write in, are fantasy, science fiction, & horror, both in ya and adult! for reading, i love romance, esp paranormal romances. if u have anything that would make it onto the romancing the monsters podcast, i will hype it.

PLUTO by Martina Santi — A WIP Introduction + Opening Lines

WIP TAG | CHARACTERS

A collection of horror stories set in the mysterious town of Fell Island, told by various characters in a small diner on the edge of town. To scare, or to entertain—at its core, these stories serve as a distraction from the fact that once they get past the entrance, they can’t seem to get back out . . .

Recurring characters include the grumpy (but secretly soft) owner of Pluto’s Diner; a clever, teen runaway; a cheery waitress with a secret; and many more. Send an ask/reply/dm to be added to the taglist!

fantasy novel.   orphans and royals. runaways and the divine. all find their destinies intertwined as they endeavour to protect magic in a land that both detests and hungers for it.

ii. gods, returned

fantasy webcomic.  these long-dead gods have come back to life, and they’re angrier than ever. oh, and they have been reincarnated as teenagers. in canada. welcome to the new age.

iii. love line

romantic short story.  a girl giving love advice on troubled relationships in her podcast finds herself in her own romantic dilemma when a childhood friend—who she may or may not be in love with still—calls in.

iv. pluto

horror anthology.  “if it can’t be a planet, why can’t it be a diner?” such is the cheery slogan of pluto: a diner perched on the shadowy edge of a less-cheery town, where employees and patrons alike spill their tales of the disturbing and the unknown.

A RECIPE FOR CHICKEN BIRIYANI (AND ARYA PANDEY) // ANCHOR-POINT

A companion piece to Anchor-Point, and a loose character study of Arya. I was inspired by Jessie Loyer’s excellent poem pimîhkân, which uses the framing device of a Canadian indigenous dish to comment on the nuances of contemporary Canadian indigenous identity. I tried to do a similar thing with Arya and her fraught relationship to her body/sense of self, and while it’s nowhere near as good as Loyer’s poem I hope it’s still an enjoyable read!! fun fact: the non-italicised portions of the recipe are actually directions for how to make my mother’s version of chicken biriyani, and it produces quite a tasty final product! Feel free to give it a try if you’re ever craving some Indian food, but don’t add in the italicised sections, as they are likely to cause headaches, dizzy spells and murderous impulses 😛😳
