This kid learned about Prohibition and I’m so proud.
When they made the sale of alcohol illegal, bars would charge exorbitant fees for pretzels and then throw in a drink for free.
Only real 1920′s kids will understand that feeling of going down to the Pretzel Bar with your friends

Buffalord Soldier au where Hiccup is the one that got the Scourge. For the first time in his life, Viggo is genuinely torn on the matter (though he doesn't show it).
On one hand, the Dragon Riders losing their leader would give him a great advantage in their little war, if not end it entirely. On the other... He can't stand the sound of Hiccup's weak, labored breathing. And his skin is so pale... Viggo can't even see those lovely freckles anymore. In the end, the deal goes the same, except this time Viggo demands he be the one to administer the cure. No one knows why, much less Viggo himself, but the Gang reluctantly agreed because they don't have the luxury of time at the moment.
Hiccup, himself, is conscious enough to at least get a hint of Viggo's oddly gentle expression, but he doesn't get to linger before Viggo steps away and lets the Gang fuss over Hiccup.
Tl;dr: I am WEAK for cabin divergences that play into my ships.
Yesssssss I love this!!!! I wrote a version where Hiccup gets the Scourge instead of Astrid, but that was years ago before I shipped Vigcup. But now? Yes!!! Could make it so very conflicting for both Viggo and Hiccup!! I enjoy that! Thank you for sharing!
Oh my goshhh I'm weak for this!!
Imagine all the excuses Viggo makes for himself as he watches Hiccup's pale face, listens to his sluggish breathing, as he practically feels the life slip out of the Viking youth he had gotten so attached to somewhere along the way.
He tells himself his fleets won't be destroyed anymore, no more loss of gold because of the dragon riders, no one will stand in his way again. With the leader gone, everything would be perfect! But... it doesn't feel perfect.
When the doubt strikes he's annoyed at first, almost furious at himself for having these bothersome emotions. He tries to make excuses for it, to reason with himself. If Hiccup dies, Berk will probably want revenge, and what will the dragons do? He's just looking out for himself, that's all.
But he knows he's lying.
No more Hiccup means no more raids and no more lost gold, but it also means no more battles of wits, no more challenges or games. It means no more of that defiant, stubborn look as Hiccup figures out a way to win, no more of that admirable determination that got him out of tricky situations.
There hadn't ever been anyone like Hiccup before, and Viggo knows that if he just stands there and does nothing, all of that would end abruptly, and he might never have anything like it again.
So, as he kneels down next to his rival, holding the cup with medicine in his hands, he makes a silent plea to the gods that it isn't too late.
Hiccup is barely conscious, just enough to make out a shape that's not one of his riders, and he makes a questioning sound, confused to what's happening.
Thinking wouldn't hear, that he was too far gone and it was more of a whisper anyway, Viggo said something to him. "There are some things that no gold can buy you, my dear."
Later, when they're back at the Edge and the Buffalord is safe, Hiccup thinks back of what Viggo said, and there's this strange feeling in his stomach he just can't shake. He tells himself it was the sickness, but he knows better.
she yearns for the tub water. disgusting.

I believe pretty firmly that it's really only the stylization that makes Chilchuck's age as ambiguous as it is, and that it'd be a lot easier to tell in real life.

@tenebrius-excellium's post got my creative gears turning, its just a rlly good idea and i just had to draw it out a bit hehe
Oi. so
Reverse Httyd where Toothless bites/rips off Hiccup's leg at the start of the movie. Hiccup then falls into the cove and is trapped there, or maybe he already was in the cove from the struggle during the dragon attack, but... he can't get out. And he is like actively dying from the blood loss, the pain, possible infection, exposure.
He hasn't got long. No one finds him, it's so deeply in the woods.
It's Toothless who has to decide to nurse Hiccup back to health/bring him back to his people, but it's Hiccup so he'll somehow still put up a fight against his deadly dragon enemy. Toothless is gonna have to earn this scrawny and injured human's trust.
Sorryyy I'm not writing a fic (I never write the fic rip) but anyone totally could??? Feel free to! I still wanna talk about this idea though! So let's say everything remains the same, except Hiccup and Toothless' respective injuries are reversed!
I'll say it is likely going to take Toothless longer to find empathy for Hiccup than it was the other way round, because Toothless has a different, more aloof character. The emotions have got to be more ramped up than the dragon's soundless desperation which originally prompted Hiccup to save Toothless' life.
Hiccup has got to be loud. He's not going out like that.
Would he scream for help? I don't know. Let's say he knows that no one will hear him from the distance of Berk's village. Also, the dragon might hear him and come back to finish the job. So no initial screaming here, just a lot of complaining and talking to himself.
But let's say during the skirmish where Hiccup and Toothless ran into each other and fought... say, Toothless fired a plasma blast and it hit some flammable wood in the cove and it created a coal fire. Hiccup is going to want to use that to cauterize his wound (sorry for being so graphic). And then there's gonna be some screaming. That can draw Toothless back in to check on what the heck happened to that human.
Hiccup may have recovered his knife, mayyybe he is even in possession of his shield. He'll hide in the crevices of some rocks that Toothless can't dig into and build a fort for defense.
He'll have to leave the fort for food and water though. I personally headcanon that Hiccup is actually quite skilled at fishing, the fact just never came up during the movies haha! Still, he'll be sooo slow and in sooo much pain and he's terrified that the dragon will spot him and finally kill him this time around. Toothless, observing the clumsy human's efforts to stay alive, now has the chance to earn his trust by catching fish for him, by ripping out entire bushes of berries (Hiccup'll eat the berries and use the sticks for firewood), by keeping him warm with his fire beams, and providing buckets of water somehow.
I want a scene in the pouring rain where Toothless is shielding Hiccup with his wings.
...Well, you know the deal, they become the unlikeliest of friends and then, at some point, Toothless has to decide to return Hiccup to his village, walking into a certain death trap for himself. Yep. Very yep.
I know there are stories like this out there but I want it with them.
Something I rarely see talked about is the fact that, at least twice in the first movie alone, Toothless helps Hiccup set boundaries or get the respect he feels Hiccup deserves.
He didn't start flying peacefully to show Astrid how nice it can be until after she apologized for being mean and threatening to tell the village. And when she did, Toothless almost immediately relaxed and arguably showed off. Like he was saying "look at this. Look at us. Look at what you'd be breaking apart and missing out on."
And, even if he didn't know the full story or reason, Toothless knew Hiccup and Stoick had a fight and Hiccup was upset. So he didn't show Stoick that Hiccup was alive until after he apologized for hurting Hiccup and starting that massive fight in the first place. In that scene, if you look at Toothless's eyes, you can tell he's waiting for something. And the second Stoick apologized, Toothless softened and opened his wings.
Even if Toothless didn't fully understand the entire situation or all the complex human stuff associated with it, he still knew that Hiccup was upset and deserved an apology. Even if neither time Hiccup asked for one and was ready to just sweep it under the rug and forget, Toothless still went the extra little mile to make it clear he wouldn't allow Hiccup to be pushed around or hurt or disrespected or anything without consequence.
Just. I love that. I love how that alone shows how damn smart the dragons, or at the very least Night Furies, can be. Toothless is Hiccup's number one advocate for anything.
summary: ryker has been tasked with bringing the boy to viggo's tent—a task that proves to be much more difficult than he thought.
this one is for @thedragon-and-hisboy @evilwriter37 and @eat-your-milk because i know you all love this as much as i do<3
for context: it's a canon divergent au where hiccup and toothless accidentally crash land on the isle of hunters after a storm during season 1 of race to the edge, so it's their first time running into viggo and ryker, and vice-versa!
enjoy<3
