I am absolutely TERRIBLE at drawing dragons proportionately. Any tops and tricks on how to proportion neck from body from tail from wings? Also, for drawing dragon OCs/AUs, how do you incorporate already-made characters’ personalities with dragon features?
I recommend looking up pictures of real life reptiles and birds for reference, as well as fish and mammals. following dragon artists and studying their style also helps, as well as observing how franchises known for fantasy creature design handle it
as for characters, I guess it's just studying a character and matching animal traits that go with them? for example, if a character is a speedster you can give them a light-weight build akin to cheetah and slender wings shaped like a falcon's; if a character relies on their strength and is generally tanky you go for a sturdy build with wider and shorter limbs, "boxy" snout, you can skip the wings entirely or change them into a second pair of arms or "wingarms" (see gaismagorm or gore/shagaru magala from monster hunter), etc. - I think it's making sense?
for visual presentation, we can dissect one of my dragon AU designs and see what traits I was focusing on
