yeah that's right, rocky full sentences time.

i also need you all to know the actual translation of "pebble" isnt like the small rock pebble, it does literally translate to "baby" and simon would hear it as "baby". i wrote "pebble" because grace translated eridian babies as "pebbles" for his own amusement. therefore: you, the viewer, get the grace terminology.

Simon being from an alternate universe that Grace did exist in. But in his universe Grace had all his memories in space and sabotaged the mission and he’s become a scapegoat for all the problems with the stars. Simon has this hatred toward the historical coward Ryland Grace who sacrificed earth for his own selfishness.

When he meets Grace in space he tries to attack him not out of fear but out of vengeance because it’s his fault Simon had to go in the sub, It’s his fault the stars died, and it’s his fault Simon’s no longer fully human.

i swear i saw a post in the phm tag that said smth like. in the iron lung universe there was a project hail mary and a ryland grace. except in their universe grace did manage to avoid going up on the hail mary, and therefore the mission failed. and ryland grace becomes known as the greatest coward/humanity's scapegoat. so when simon wakes up on erid and finds out one of his saviors is ryland grace, simon hates him initially

anyway. i keep thinking abt a scenario where they're constantly fighting/arguing, everyone's upset just all the time, and eventually it all culminates with their worst (and final) argument ending when grace screams "I JUST WANTED TO LIVE!"

and simon fucking freezes.

grace is crying. "i just wanted to live. what's so wrong about that?"

grace is repeating simon's own words back to him verbatim, and that's when it finally dawns on simon that ryland grace's whole situation was, and is, just as fucked up

One of my favorite Bloodymary tropes is Simon dropping some random childhood trauma lore and mandated-reporter-middle-school-teacher Grace going:

For the BloodyMary ship my favorite explanation for just how Simon got on Grace’s radar is that Simon is from the far future and was somehow spit into the past and meets Grace.

But I don’t think people make that angsty enough for my taste.

Give me Grace realizing that taumoeba for some reason didn’t work or maybe never even made it back to earth. That maybe it was too late to stop the astrophage. That him being sent on this one way mission was for nothing. That him almost dying was for nothing. That Rocky almost dying was for nothing. That the planets get eaten no matter what.

Then give me Simon realizing that the Quiet Rapture wasn’t God’s way of punishing humanity. That the cure was made and even sent back to earth but it just didn’t work. That some person saw the planets dying, made a cult about it, slapped the label religion on it and made it all about power. That his whole life was some lie. That if Ryland’s cure didn’t work maybe the black box he found didn’t work either.

Give me both of them struggling to come to terms with this new information. Give me them avoiding that topic altogether as they live on Erid. Give me them loosing sleep over it sometimes as they hold each other. Give me Grace having panic attacks if he thinks about it too long. Give me Simon getting random bursts of anger because it’s makes no sense and that Grace did everything right but still humanity collapses.

Give me them never truly coming to terms with what they have to accept as inevitable.
