I wasn't able to finish Kabuto before the 20th anniversary today like I originally hoped (I'll fix that eventually) so I watched both the Hyper Battle Video and God Speed Love to make up for it
Let's just say they were in two varying levels of wild in the most Kabuto way possible (in a good way obviously) but I did almost get emotional during God Speed Love :')
Did they finally explain why several of these characters are fucking duchebags? Seriously, what is Glasses guy and Kageyama's deal?
how imma be pulling up to my injured partner in the hospital
Question
Can someone please tell me what's Kageyama's damage? At least Hojo you can explain as the cop who thinks he deserves better than the guy who likely blackmailed the higher ups to gain acknowledgement as a better cop and the G3 system. Yes. Hikawa proves it despite being a total moron. But what's Kageyama's story? Why is he such a fucking duchebag?
Between kidnapping Gon, the fake assault "on Tendo's orders", and the whole frame Kagami stunt. I swear, he goes out of his way to be as inhumanely duchey as possible. What the fuck is wrong with this man?
Wondering that since I first saw the guy.
Kabuto
I'm actually enjoying my Kabuto run so far. The way they treat Kageyama is absolutely perfect. He's a tool on Hojo's level, so I don't mind. Tsurugi is a twit. But damn can help be entertaining. Butler guy is the better cook. Glasses duche (I can't seem to remember his name), is such a fuck. How did he sneak into that factory? Anyway, Kagami's arc to gain his zector, legendary. Gattack is a great addition. Sad about Gon/Yuriko though.
Initial thoughts of That Scene: a particularly interesting exchange to me
1. I don't know if this is intended more as "Fujimi doesn't like alcohol" or "Fujimi can't hold his liquor" but it's interesting either way, because it would seem to imply that Fujimi isn't actually that into drinking. You may remember it was actually Nox who proposed their bet way back when:
Which means that when went drinking with Nox in the past, and when he does again here, he's just in it for the social aspect. Can I just say that again? He is only doing it to spend time with Nox. That isn't me reading into things, that is the text as it is presented.
2. If you'll allow my queer lens here. Even looking past the ship there's something here when it comes to Fujimi, isn't there? A "promise between men." A way of sort of laminating himself into the standard of stereotypical social masculinity. Specifically drinking, which is a very "going out with the guys" type of activity, even though he doesn't like it. "Don't force yourself." I don't know, these are the things I think about when I'm presented with a character who has this kind of a devotion to another male character, who doesn't seem to have many other friends, who in his own words (in Agent Minami) is a "single, workaholic middle-aged man" (which sounds a lot like "confirmed bachelor" to me), whose work that he is a holic for is directly about finding the aforementioned other man and getting him home, who has had multiple jokes based around shoving things in another man's mouth or vice versa... like am I losing to the dog or at what point is it just intentional coding

I just watched this and... it's something else. Weird. But cool.

“Rachel, Rachel, Rachel! Everything is always Rachel around here!”
- Jordan, Megamorphs #1: The Andalite’s Gift, pg. 149 (by K.A. Applegate)
"Marsha! Marsha! Marsha!" Jordan if she was in the Brady Bunch
I was just rereading 17, and the chapter where Rachel mentions that Tobias regularly flies up to her window first thing in the morning got me thinking about your AU where Jordan was a Controller. Wouldn't it have been interesting if THAT was how the Animorphs got found out? Like, Jordan gets Yeerked, then over the course of a month or two notices this red-tailed hawk flying directly into her sister's room, which is already suss af, but ESP to a Yeerk who knows that red-tails are the bane of their existence.
Then she follows Rachel one day and sees her meeting up with Jake and Cassie and that hawk is suspiciously up in the sky again, so she casually asks Visser Seventeen (tm) whether he has ever noticed any strange inconsistenties in Jake's behavior. A few compared notes later and uh-oh, you've got the beginning of #41 (except without the ridiculous dream travel plot) unless the Anis act fast, and then it continues the plot of #49 except that either Jordan gets left behind and Rachel and Jake get to bond more over their lost siblings OR she plays Pokeman nerd and manages to tag along to the HB Valley like on your AU.
This is amazing, because Jordan would totally notice something like Rachel having a secret boyfriend. Their rivalry and willingness to tattle on each other is a major through line in their relationship.
And yeah, Jordan would be dangerous to Rachel in a way that an older character might not, because she's young enough to be beyond suspicion in some regards.
Wonder AU
I wonder, as a what if, would be like if Jordan not Rachel was at the construction site.
Jordan: You got the bird flu? What were you doing, making out with a bird?
Rachel: No! Don’t be stupid!
LATER
Rachel: Tobias, do you have any flu-like symptoms?
Why is this might actually be possible?
Y’all ever think about how Sibuna was also a cult?
well, you see they
all lived together
were vulnerable after joy's disappearance
developed a maddening obsession with a great mystery from beyond
sacrificed possessions as a method of bonding to be more "official" about joining sibuna
had with matching tattoos (for a time) (this is a stretch, idc it fits my narrative and i'm biased because this is fun)
put together a cup of eternal life
had a strangely intense interest in past religious figures
i bet i'm missing some things. sibuna was a cult in the "alls fair in love and dying from your house father trying to sacrifice you for eternal life" way.
