Summary: Kai gets a fishing pole and has an idea.
Ā Ā Ā Jay sat on the couch, tucked into Coleās side, watching a Fritz Donnegan movie. Coleās arm was draped over Jayās shoulders as Jay mouthed the words to the movie heād seen a thousand times.
Ā Ā Ā āFear? Fear is not a word where I come from.ā
Ā Ā Ā Suddenly, a small green plant appeared between Jay and Cole, swinging slightly. A few white berries dotted the plant, and the top was tied with a red ribbon. Behind the couch stood Kai, holding a fishing pole with a plant of mistletoe hanging from the hook.
Ā Ā Ā Jay grabbed Coleās hand and kissed the palm, earning a confused look from him.
Ā Ā Ā āWhat was that?ā Cole asked, a look of confusion covering his features.
Ā Ā Ā Jay chuckled before looking at Cole with complete seriousness. āA kiss. Itās tradition, Cole.ā
Ā Ā Ā āBut why my palm?ā A gentle smile spread across Coleās face.
Ā Ā Ā āA kiss is a kiss, no matter where.ā
Ā Ā Ā Cole sighed before turning back to the screen, watching as Fritz Donnegan ended his monologue.
Ā Ā Ā Jay and Cole sat on a blanket eating lunch, surrounded by trees. Cole listened as Jay talked about the invention he was currently working on. They sat comfortably in solitude.
Ā Ā Ā At least, until the mistletoe hung in front of Coleās face. Kai kneeled next to the blanket, fishing pole in hand. The mistletoe slightly swung as the silence grew longer.
Ā Ā Ā Jay stared at the small plant as a look of determination slowly spread across his face. āIām gonna eat it.ā
Ā Ā Ā āJay no.ā Cole said, resting his hand on Jayās.
Ā Ā Ā āJay yes.ā Jay countered, making unbreakable eye contact with Cole.
Ā Ā Ā āItās poisonous, Jay. Youāll die.ā
Ā Ā Ā āThatās just pets, Cole. Iāll be fine.ā
Ā Ā Ā Jay reached for the mistletoe, but Kai was nowhere to be found. Jayās face fell from determination to disappointment, and he quietly ate his sandwich.
Ā Ā Ā Cole leaned against the doorframe as he talked to Jay. Jay stood at the kitchen counter, tinkering with a small device. Once again, the plant of mistletoe appeared between the two, with Kai standing nearby.
Ā Ā Ā Jay continued to mess with the device, not noticing the small plant dangling in the air. Cole watched Jay for a few seconds, waiting to see if Jay would eventually notice the mistletoe. Jay continued to tinker with the small machine, the mistletoe quietly swinging in the air.
Ā Ā Ā Cole walked over to Jay, leaning down and pressing his lips to Jayās forehead before walking towards the pantry. Jay continued to examine the machine before stopping for a few seconds and looking over at Cole.
Ā Ā Ā āWhat was that?ā Jay asked, a smile riddled with confusion spread across his face.
Ā Ā Ā āA kiss. Itās tradition, Jay.ā Cole replied, saying the words exactly as Jay had said them only hours ago.Ā Ā Ā
Ā Ā Ā Jay chuckled as he went back to his machine, glancing at Cole every so often.
Ā Ā Ā Jay laid on the couch, his legs draped over Coleās lap and his head on the arm of the couch. Jay yawned as he watched the movie on the screen, struggling to keep his eyes open. The small green plant hung between Jay and Cole yet again, with Kai standing behind the couch.
Ā Ā Ā Cole stared at Kai for a few seconds before finally speaking. āReally, Kai? Again?ā
Ā Ā Ā Kai remained silent, replying only with a mischievous smile. He shook the fishing pole, which in turn shook the mistletoe.
Ā Ā Ā Cole sighed before leaning down and pressing his lips onto Jayās, then returning to his previous position. āHappy?ā
Ā Ā Ā āVery,ā Kai said as he pulled the fishing pole back behind the couch with him.
Ā Ā Ā Jay slowly blinked, his exhausted brain attempting to process what had happened. He looked at Cole for a few seconds before simply saying, āOh worm?ā
Ā Ā Ā Cole stared at Jay in confusion, not knowing what to say. Just before Cole and Kai burst into laughter, Jayās eyes fluttered shut and soft snores could be heard. After the laughter died down and the humor had passed, Cole carried Jay to the room and laid him in the bed. He pressed his lips to Jayās forehead, this time not needing mistletoe to prompt him.
