“Of course.” Thomas jotted the order down, more as a formality because some people tended to doubt his memory and would complain that he got their order wrong when he definitely didn’t. But the customer was always right. “My cousin lives here.” He slipped the pen behind his ear and smiled at the patron. It was easy to divert the question when he offered another type of information about him. “He’s a firefighter in town, you might know him. Brayden Walker? Our mom’s are sisters. I’ll be right back with your food, Mr. Waters.” Thomas nodded before he disappeared, only to return a few minutes later. He waited for the table to be cleared before he set the plate down. “Careful, it’s hot. Do you want some cheese over the asparagus?”
Mark pleasantly smiled as the man wrote down his order. “Oh, I do know Brayden.” He was not particularly close to the man’s cousin, but he was well aware of all the firefighters under Niko Valentine. Adriana after all was close to all the Valentines and during their marriage it meant he too had to be close to them. “Thank you, I appreciate it.” While Thomas was off taking other orders and working, Mark returned to writing on his laptop a few notes. For whatever reason, the last few months have been difficult and he has been having writer’s block. When Thomas returned, Mark moved the laptop and thanked him for his service. “No, I’ll just have it plain thanks.”
