I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with

But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. thinking about an au wherein Simon and Ava both survives. wherein they both get out. wherein Simon still gets the black box and its content is genuinely useful, and maybe hope is slowly being put back into their universe, except-

Simon's changed. the blood ocean changed him. not just mentally, but physically- mutated him into something inhuman, and even though Ava meant her promise, offered him freedom and truly meant to let him have it, she can't

she can't, because Simon is not human. she can't, because what he is now is dangerous. because they don't know what's wrong with him, what he's capable of, what he'd do, what even his mere presence among normal people would do. maybe it's contagious. maybe the mutation isn't done. maybe whatever was killing people down there is still there, in Simon's body, biding it's time

they don't know. and they can't risk the damage

so Simon is taken from one cage to another. goes from one hell to another. and Ava, who promised him freedom and meant it, has to make herself met his eyes, and bear that guilt, because there is no one else left in the universe who would care about Simon the Butcher

(and Simon, who was promised freedom and taken it away time and time again, meets the eyes of the woman who locked that cage time and time again, and hates her)
