I completed my 1st year of graduate school!!!!

Made the top 2 after within 2 weeks after the semester ended and the bottom one before my crit. Time is flying by so fast and I cannot believe that Im entering my 2nd year!!!! Thesis time :)

It’s really hard to know where things are headed rn, like I wish I could have 2021-2023 back but it also wasn’t a normal time in my life at all. Hope things look up soon <3

I have been DEEP into my making bag. I have been trying to tap into what I really want to make and not care about a market, what others expect out of me and places. I have been in love with making lately so much that it feels like nobody understands what i’m trying to say anymore. In an art world that favors trends and cycles, I choose me and what truly makes my heart beat. I have had so much fun inspecting my feelings which has felt cathartic and left me pondering about being true to this or being in this for superficial reasons.

Painting dump + life update:

I started graduate school a few months ago and it’s been very transformative so far. I’m making work I have always wanted to make and forming better language around it. My sense of urgency when I make work is still here but more tamed and contained. I don’t have a lot of time rn so I use social media media sparingly, trying to focus on what the work can be.

It’s crazy to be in school again, hard to navigate in a lot of ways but worth being with most of my tuition covered (like I pay crumbs compared to undergrad). I do not take that for granted at all. I’m also in therapy again lol. It’s interesting to be back after all this time but I have a lot of things to work thru for sure.

I have more work to show you but that’ll do it for now :)🐀💋

tbh, my attitude towards what I deserve or not has drastically changed over the past few weeks. being grateful for what I have already accomplished and what is happening has been a blessing in disguise. it’s looking up!

Paintings and thots :$

I like seeing how my hand changes depending on the surface I work on. It tends to be airier when I work on canvas and tighter when I work on paper (left paper, right canvas).

Waiting for the things you so rightfully deserve is hard but it’s the name of the game. Keyword is waiting and waiting is hard cuz I’m a Leo lmao but I’m working on it. Working on waiting, waiting on knowing when to act, waiting on being ready.

In times times when you have no idea what the route is, what the direction on the map is, all you can do is keep on going on that walk, there’s always fun shit to see. Enjoy the ride even when it gets bumpy 🌊. Sometimes you just gotta keep doing it even when it doesn’t seem like things are going according to the plan. This is about sitting with it. You can’t always run away from what you feel, it will always catch up to you one way or another so make space to feel. I love feeling, the one and only indicator that things are working up there.

I enjoyed making this as a way to visualize what I am thinking about most days. :•)🖤🍀🐀🫶🏾🕊️🤍

I wanna be more consistent on here. Truth is, i be forgetting sometimes lol.

In this limbo period where i feel like my career as an artist tanked because of [redacted] gallery and i have to build myself again. Is it my downfall? Lol. I know it’s salvageable and im still early in my endeavors but i miss my naivety and just being able to enjoy art for the hell of it instead of seeing it as a job.

Learned a lot doing art full time but maybe i need a side job too. Grateful for everything and don’t wanna sound ungrateful but it’s rough out here what can i say! Anyway, i made this a few days ago. Will share what i been doing soon :^)
