Doing Alright: Driving for hours and the sun rises, insanely soft tshirts you’ve worn for years, tattoos in pen, flea markets in the fall, huddling with friends to keep warm, high school band practicing in the garage, that one candle you’ve burned to the bottom of the container, glowing skin, feeling the sun on your face, gym clothes after they’ve been cleaned
Great King Rat: Cities in the rain, a half smoked cigarette on the sidewalk, hair that’s been dyed every color imaginable, distressed sweaters, purpley lipsticks, walking through an alley in your favorite hoodie, sneakers walking through puddles, cramming at 3 am, notebooks that have gone soft on the edges, writing on the inside of a bathroom stall, black eye makeup
My Fairy King: the wind blowing your shirt back, feet on dewy grass, mismatched jewelry, connect the dots with freckles, ragged ribbons and beads tied in your hair, fringed shirts, a glint in your eye, drinks tons of water, glass figurines, talking to wildlife, gardening in the spring, putting your feet in a stream, “what’s your sign?” “I knew it”
Liar: The out of tune guitar you found in the attic, bruises you have no explanation for, putting makeup on in public, biting a plastic straw, jeans stained with paint and grass, records hanging on the wall, taking your earrings off in a fight, changing your reputation, fingerless gloves, smoke illuminated by bar lights, the atmosphere when you get on stage
The Night Comes Down: Trying to be quiet when you’re cooking at midnight, your feet hitting the cold floor, reading when you can’t sleep, loose braids and stray hairs, listening to white noise, a bath before bed, scratched up knees, writing by candlelight, needs an inhaler, the face you make when you put on mascara
Modern Times Rock ‘N’ Roll: Messed up hair from head banging, Hendrix posters on the wall, air drumming, jeans worn 4 times a week, ringer tees, those sharpie marks on your hands when you go to a festival, throwing gum out the window of a car, purposely smudging your makeup, chapped lips with a great smile, quoting old SNL skits, a baseball cap you’ve had since childhood, eating while driving
Son and Daughter: Rings on every finger, leather jackets for every season, going out every night, fingers that smell like guitar strings, asking a stranger for the time, first name basis with the bartender, acute knowledge of body language, twisting your words, vests vests vests, snarky comments under your breath, flipping your hair in the mirror
Jesus: Gullible but strong, keeps a travel notebook, thoughtful annotations in old books, immense knowledge of the ancient world, dirty glasses lenses, dirt stained hands, carving your name into a table, clear walls, walking on gravel, beaten up sandals
Seven Seas of Rhye: Soft spoken, knows the different musical periods, torn sheet music, scribbled words on scrap paper, tapping your foot to a beat, unconsciously humming, putting your hair up before you start your day
