A Taste of Hyrule (and beyond)

A project which aims to [re]create foods that might be found in the Legend of Zelda series.

I knew she liked lemon cake, I just didn’t know if I could MAKE a lemon cake.

But I gave it my best shot - I knew she’d just love to have some on our picnic, it’d be a GREAT surprise, so here it is - lemon cake filled with lemon curd, topped with a royal icing in @thelavenderqueen‘s favorite color of, well, lavender!

Breakfast in the desert.

One of my favorite summer treats here in Lorule, this dish is real simple! All you need are strawberries and milk, and sugar or honey to taste. You can also substitute any berry, or mix them! This isn’t really much of a recipe but because I like it SO much, and Mr. Hero does too - he’d never had it before! - I thought I’d share!

Slice your strawberries and add to bowl with sugar/honey and toss until coated, then add milk! Eat with a spoon like you would with porridge. That’s it! The best part is the milk afterwards - once you’re finished eating the berries there’s wonderful flavored milk left which you can drink or use in another recipe! I Just drink it!

Just remember to be responsible with your milk drinking!

Tiny Thieves Town Tarts - Pumpkin When I discovered that Mr. Hero loved pumpkin as much as I did I just HAD to make him Lorule’s version of pumpkin tarts - which turns out to taste a lot like Hyrule’s pumpkin pie, just... smaller.

To make the tarts you will need: A muffin pan or small tart molds Use your pie crust recipe of choice, or ready-made crust, but you might have to work it and re-roll to be the right shape. 

Filling: You can actually use any filling in these, but I chose pumpkin since it’s all over in Hyrule.

Use your favorite pumpkin pie filling recipe - I used a variation of Eagle’s Perfect Pumpkin Pie recipe which can be found here - my variation is as follows. If there had been pumpkins available I would be roasting and making my own pumpkin, but alas I couldn’t find any.

   1 (15 oz.) can pumpkin (about 2 cups)1 (14 oz.) can Sweetened Condensed Milk

2  large eggs

1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon                            1 teaspoon ground ginger1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

You can adjust the spices to your liking! I didn’t add any salt (though I normally would) but they came out tasting great anyways.

Directions: Roll the dough about 1/4th an inch thick and place into ungreased muffin cups, forming individual little pie crusts. Fill crusts to 3/4 full and put into over. Bake at 425 for 10 minutes then reduce the heat to 350 and bake another 15 minutes or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool before serving if preferred.

Whipped cream topping (optional) i pint of heavy whipping cream Sugar to taste (I use about 1/2 a cup) Optional: 1 tsp. of vanilla bean paste

Combine all the ingredients into a chilled bowl and whip until stiff peaks form. Serve immediately.

A Braid Between Worlds

If there’s one thing Hyrule and Lorule have in common it’s our love of apples - apples are one of the only crops that really thrive here in Lorule, and they plentiful in Hyrule - and as a result so are apple recipes, and in particular I found that this was one that we had in Hyrule AND Lorule!

And since Mr. Hero and I just spent a weekend picking apples I thought apple braids would be perfect to make - it’s a pretty simple dish to make once your get the braiding down!
