it’s an original romance that was clearly written by an MC fan and the whole plot of it all is a fever dream. the Suly rip off male lead guy has a rival sultan called Mehmet that claimed a province as his own and for a second i thought, hey, this is an understanding historical AU! like maybe the sultan left one of his brothers alive and the dude claimed a province as his own state and now they’re at war! that could make for some juicy conflict! but no the sultan Mehmet guy wasn’t fake Suly’s brother he was literally just some guy?? 😭 anyway the romance was also stupid as fuck. there’s a rlly contrived “you lied to me!!” conflict at the end because fake Suly found out fake Hurrem lied about her parents being wealthy merchants and i literally can’t explain to you why he got mad. i can’t tell if it’s because i watched it while high or because if it made no sense. Mehmet rival guy also had a spy in the palace all along and turns out it was fake Mahidevran which was a nice plot twist at least. she stabs a dude at the end

I really don't know enough about BPD to say. Especially since it's such a stigmatised and misunderstood disorder. That said at the very least Hürrem is extremely traumatised.

but my take on this is that you can’t apply the same criteria used to diagnose today on characters from the 16th century. any type of personality disorder is always diagnosed in the context of societal norms. and Hurrem’s outbursts and mood swings are very much warranted given her situation 💀 like when you take into account her trauma, the power imbalance in her relationship with Suly, the fact that she spends a lot of time with no real support system and the fact that she’s a literal teenager at the beginning, you could find 183838 other things to explain her behaviour rather than BPD. and even if we go by a textbook definition, it STILL doesn’t apply to her. like Hurrem is pretty stable in her general behaviour and self image once she gets to a more secure place. there’s no pattern of her having “a favorite person” nor is there one of self harm

It is interesting that almost everyone loved the carpet best! It is understandable since the carpet is by far the most uncanny similarity, but the comic book one is my favorite because it is two for the price of one and I basically got fancy Nigar/Ibrahim fan art and it cost nothing.

Thoughts on Murad/Turhan ship?

I don't personally ship Murad with any woman tbh

I haven't seen that many Murad/Turhan shippers, but from what I've seen, the idea is that since Turhan is strong and ruthless, Murad would recognize her as his match and they would become a power couple and steamroll over everyone.

As much as I like the idea of such a couple, I don't buy it for them. Murad is an absolutist, he doesn't want to share his power with anyone, especially not with a woman. Turhan is smart, ambitious, interested in state affairs, and takes no shit. She would remind him too much of his mother and sooner or later he would resent her for it and try to "put her in her place" and she would hate him for it.

Like I can see her at first playing loyal and submissive like she did with Kosem whom she had identified as the real power since Ibrahim was so weak, but just like his mother, they would come to butt heads eventually

Anyway, Turhan x Koprulu is where it's at for me.
