The generic Adrenaclick will cost $109.99 for two doses, compared with $649.99 for the same amount of drug in an EpiPen. That’s good news, both for financial and safety reasons: STAT reported last year that some parents and institutions had begun filling up syringes with epinephrine as a cost-cutting measure, a DIY solution that could pose great risk to the children who may have eventually needed injections. A more affordable alternative will help ensure safer epinephrine injections.

That’s assuming, though, that the people who need these devices know exactly what to ask for when they’re sitting in their doctors’ offices. Otherwise, they’ll still be stuck with the overpriced product. Here’s why: The mechanism by which Adrenaclick injects the drug is slightly different from EpiPen’s mechanism, so the Food and Drug Administration has ruled that the two are not therapeutically equivalent. That distinction is important because it means a prescription for an EpiPen cannot be filled with Adrenaclick. If you want the cheaper option, you have to have an Adrenaclick prescription.

You must ask your doctor for an Adrenaclick prescription!

I also found a coupon from Impax on 0.15mg and 0.3mg epinephrine injection, USP auto-injectors, which appear to be the generic version of Adrenaclick; these coupons cover up to $100 per pack for 3 packs of these injectors (6 total injectors).

Some customers may be automatically eligible for $100 off the retail price thus only paying $10 for a pack, but this may be good backup for those who for whatever reason do not meet those requirements.

Also, just while I’ve got you all here, there were two major recalls on EPI pen alternatives this year in 2020. One in the UK and in the US (I knew about them because I’m a UK citizen living in the US and have prescriptions for both.)

For the UK any patients issued the Emerade 150 microgram auto-injector pen need to return all their current pens and have them changed for another brand due to a fault in the delivery mechanism system that potentially prevents the administration of life saving doses of epinephrine. If you use Emerade instead of an EPI pen, contact your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. Recall is dated as recent as March 4th 2020

In the US there have been recent recalls for the Amneal/Impax 0.3mg Epinephrine Auto-Injectors. There is a vital safety component missing, which may mean people get a double dose of epinephrine and suffer severe side effects. This recall is dated active as on June 1st 2020. If you use Anmeal/Impax, you need to check your pen for this fault.

On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.

On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.

Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.

If you are like me and always need to be working on something to keep your anxiety under control, during this quarentine why not helping scientists by looking at pictures of some neat penguins? or even galaxies? There’s this site call Zooniverse, where you can help on scientific projects by analyzing pictures and data! Right now my favorite project has returned, called Penguin Watch (where yeah, you get to watch penguins, it’s amazing)

you basically have to analyse photos looking for penguins, their chicks, eggs or even predators and human interaction But there are lots of interesting projects you can help in areas such as biology, physics, history or even art:

Oh and the best part, some institutions even accept it as volunteering/service hour requirements for graduation and scholarships!! It’s helping me a lot during this time, so I thought it was worth sharing

Some people dismiss obscure vocabulary on the grounds that it is merely a puffed-up version of everyday language: “Why say ‘cacophony’ when you could just say ‘racket’ or even ‘noise’?” But no matter how close two words may be, they are never exactly alike. This is true for at least three reasons:

Phonetics: Setting aside differences in meaning, the sounds produced by the words ‘cacophony,’ ‘racket,’ ‘din,’ ‘clamor,’ ‘dissonance,’ ‘hubbub, ‘noise,’ etc. are different—and with each difference in sound comes a difference in effect, especially as they are combined with other words. (Compare the alliterative “cat’s clamor” with the awkward triple-s of “cat’s stridency.”) Here I don’t just mean the quality of sound produced by different vowels and consonants (fricatives, sibilants, plosives, etc.), but the rhythms formed by various combinations of stressed and unstressed syllables (iambs, dactyls, anapests, etc.). Whether you want to sound flowing or sharp, orderly or chaotic, humorous or solemn, etc. depends in large part on the sound of the words you use.

Semantics: No matter how similar the definitions of two words may be in a dictionary, subtle differences in meaning can invariably be found. ‘Din,’ for example, evokes not just a loud noise, but the continuous, many-sided, and all-encompassing loud noise of, say, a packed football stadium or urban construction site. ‘Clangor,’ by contrast, suggests a loud noise with a more singular source, especially one with a sharp, metallic, and ringing quality, such as that of swords clashing in one-on-one combat, or the operation of an industrial machine. From a distance, these words both refer to an “unpleasantly loud noise.” When you look closer, however, they have different shades of meaning that make their appropriate or ingenious use all the more effective.

Pragmatics: Lastly, two words with near-identical meanings may nevertheless have different histories of actual use—histories which associate them with various institutions, degrees of formality, aspects of life, or even with other words—and these associations can either be observed or knowingly subverted. If your character is a doctor, do they say ‘bleed’ or ‘hemorrhage’? If I decide to go on a diet, do I casually say I will ‘give up’ chocolate, or do I assume legal solemnity and ‘forswear’ it? Words with similar meanings, and even similar sounds, can still take your sentence in one tonal direction or another, simply owing to past and present contexts of those words’ use.
