Ampellilja / Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)

Origin: South Africa.

Placement: Bright, but avoid direct sunlight. West, north or west window.

Temperature: Around 13-18 C.

Soil: Well-drained. Regular potting soil.

Watering: Water well, but not soggy. Keep lightly moist. Dry out some between waterings.

Fertilizing: Can be given lightly the entire year.

Problems: Brown tips from too much sunlight/low humidity. Yellow leaves from lack of sunlight or too much salt build-up from fertilizing.

Characteristics: Tough plant, can deal with abuse. Cleans air. Produces spiderettes to make new plants from. 

Toxicity: Not toxic to dogs or cats.

Repotting: Repot about once a year.

Other: Remove spiderettes as they drain energy. Can be pruned to the base for a better looking plant. Blooms with small white flowers. Enjoys being root bound, which makes it develop spiderettes.

Flasklilja / Ponytail Palm (Beaucarnea recurvata)

Origin: Mexico.

Placement: Prefers bright light, but tolerates shadow, as long as it's split thorough the year.

Temperature: Can deal with temperatures down to -5-8°C.

Soil: Well-drained. Regular potting soil.

Watering: Minimal. Every 3 weeks in summer. Barely in winter. Let dry significantly between waterings. Only water into the soil and not the stem.

Fertilizing: Only up to 3 times per year, or it may develop brown tips.

Characteristics: Can deal with drought due to the bulbous trunk with water.

Toxicity: Not toxic to dogs or cats.

Repotting:  Repot when root bound in an 1-2 inches larger pot.

Other: Can originally grow up to 9m tall. Can only become about 2m as a potted plant. Can bloom, but almost impossible as an inside plant. Is actually a succulent part of the Agave family.

Forellbegonia / Angel Wing Begonia (Begonia maculata)

Origin: Brazil.

Placement: Bright or half shadow. No direct sunlight. Low light will prevent blooming.

Temperature: 

Soil: Moist, but not soggy. Dry between waterings. Root ball can not dry out.

Watering: 

Fertilizing: Use a food high in nitrogen to provide leaf growth. Use  phosphorus for flowers. Once a month during growth season.

Problems:

Characteristics: One of the easiest begonias to grow.

Toxicity:

Repotting: Repot yearly in spring.

Other: Flowers july to august. Thrives when slightly pot bound.
