Diébédo Francis Kéré knew exactly what he wanted to do when he got his degree in architecture... He wanted to go home to Gando in Burkina Faso, to help his neighbors reap the benefit of his education. In this charming talk, Kéré shows off some of the beautiful structures he's helped to build in his small village in the years since then, including an award-winning primary school made from clay by the entire community.

Jan Kath Rug designer .. Lecture and workshop
I had the pleasure of attending Lecture and Workshop hosted by The Victoria and Albert museum and presented by Jan Kath
We Explored the process of Slow Making with the award-winning designer, and how he connects the newest and oldest techniques using innovating patterns and colors, whilst striving for perfection using traditional production methods. Manual weaving, natural materials really make his designs awesome .
Take a look at his video on the slow making process of each of his rug so much love care and detailed attention goes into each rug that is made , The whole process of making one rug could take from 6 months to 1 year . These techniques are sacred and can only be performed by trained artisan.

A Spiritual Approach to Interior Design
For me, my intentions when creating interiors is to create a space that suits the holistic needs of the occupant, that means I consider the physical needs, mental needs emotional needs and spiritual needs, (this is why I call myself a Holistic interior designer ) The aim is to make your home (life space) a sanctuary that will bring you untold joy , comfort strength and have a positive impact on your overall wellbeing
So…. The question is how do we get to that “sanctuary”…in a spiritual way? Well, the answer is, we allow our creative spirit to flow. We find our unique “design signature” by opening our hearts and allowing our own intuition to take the driving seat. This may or may not come easily to you, however, trust in the process
1 Sit and listen to your body
Do you love earth tones, how do they make you feel? Do you love contemporary interiors…or do you feel more comfortable with traditional furnishings? When you can understand what makes you feel good, comfy and joyous, by all means, use it in your home. Yes, you can take inspiration from magazine etc but try to work with your own inner understanding of what is good for you.
2.What’s your narrative
What makes you authentically you ?. You don’t want to create a space that looks like your local showroom, make it personal. The person who lives here adores yellow, she wanted to be surrounded by elements of nature with need very neutral tones of creams and browns, she also wanted artwork that reflected her connection to her African roots. There’s a “story” here that allows me to connect with her in a personal way.
3. Don’t be shy
When you sit and think about the space that will help sustain your peace, keep you balanced, focused and healthy what comes to mind? .. Well run with that and then some.
Don’t be shy about your life space take that leap and try something that seems so far out of your reach. I always say where there is a will there is a way. When I work with a client one of the first things I do is get rid of is this ‘fear to try something new’ attitude, and get them ready for a “step out in a big bold way’ attitude. This is my job as a holistic interior designer, to get you to think outside the box.
4. Be holistic
We now know that thought controls matter (the body) and how we treat our body affects our minds and visa-versa . See your life space or works space as a whole. What you do in one room affects the next room. Make sure there is a common design theme that moves through your space so that the rooms “communicate with each other “
5. Consider your health and the health of our planet as a whole
When choosing finishes and furnishings please consider not just your health but the health of our beautiful planet and all our relations ( other people, animals etc)
Consider the 5 R’s to Sustainability: Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, Rot, Refuse And using nontoxic materials such as natural paints, nontoxic natural sustainable floor coverings
6. Have fun
While it’s important to have a vision, it’s also important to relax and be kind to yourself, this takes the pressure off. Savor every moment of the transformation and enjoy it

THRIFT STUDIO POP-UP SHOP
Tuesday – Saturday; 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM Dwell with Dignity’s Thrift Studio event is a fundraiser like no other and we are thrilled to bring it to the Atlanta community! Thrift Studio is a 30-day pop-up shop created to provide financial viability and fundraising for Dwell with Dignity by selling furniture, housewares, accessories, and high-end designer finds to the public. Since the concept launched in Dallas in 2011, the event has grown into a highly anticipated and can’t-miss event for DwD supporters, the interior design community and the general public looking for a fabulous deal on home furnishings. Thrift Studio provides one-third of the operating revenue that allows Dwell with Dignity to change lives through design by bringing good design to those who can afford it the least. In 2016 Dwell with Dignity will complete 22 projects providing fresh starts for 20 families and 2 community partners. Our approach of one household at a time allows us to be integral to breaking the cycle of poverty. We provide the stability, comfort and pride needed to change the course of the lives of the families we help. We cannot do that without the support of our largest fundraiser, Thrift Studio September 30 - October 29, 2016; Tuesday - Saturday; 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Open to Public) Read more about Dwell with Dignity at www.dwellwithdignity.org!
