Inktober Day 20: Scorched
I love this spicy cat dragon. Colored version coming soon!
Alright, so Inktober's pretty clearly over, and while I unfortunately didn't keep up with the daily challenges, I'm still gonna keep going and finish. I'm not too worried about cranking them out one after the other, I'm just going to take my time on them. Which I'm going to need, since a few of the remaining pieces I've got planned are pretty intricate, especially the elder dragons!
Also I wanna say hi to all my new followers! It's great to see everybody, and if you've got any questions or just wanna chat, message away! I don't bite!
Inktober Day 18: Bottle
Panic sprint!! Go!
Inktober Day 17: Swollen
Here’s a floating ball of sunshine! I love this weird fluffybutt monster
Inktober Day 16: Angular
This was one of the most fun pieces I’ve worked on yet this month, and I really like the style I used here. One of the restrictions I gave myself for this was that I had to use only straight lines for all of Kushala, to really drive home the ‘angular’ prompt, and I wanted to do some kind of swirly nonsense in the background for contrast, though I’m definitely glad I did clouds instead.

Inktober Day 15: Weak
They may not be strong enough yet to hunt on their own and put a stop to vicious turf wars with a single flash, but they will some day!
This piece went through three different versions before I settled on this one. Tzitzi raptor babies!!
Inktober Day 14: Clock
“Look, it's not my fault I got distracted collecting resources and catching frogs! Just hop on out of that lava and we can settle this!”
Pretty much the only thing I’ve even been playing MHW for recently is to just get screenshots and references for all the monsters and environments I’m drawing through Inktober.
Inktober Day 13: Guarded
Radobaan has got to be one of my top favorite new monsters in World. And for no real reason other than that it looks so cool! Yeah, it’s basically an Uragaan reskin, but who cares? The design and biology of this monster fits so well with the Rotten Vale’s unique ecosystem.
It’s a doozy figuring out how to draw the tar along with all those spikes, but I like the way it came out, and might come back to work on it more after Inktober.
Inktober Day 12: Whale
Zorah Magdaros is an elder dragon on the same awe-inspiring level of power and size as Dalamadur and Lao Shan Lung, but it’s role and portrayal in World was underwhelming and left a lot to be desired.
That being said, Zorah is literally a living volcano, and nearly destroyed all of the New World. If you disregard the gameplay and look at him solely on his own merits, he’s pretty amazing.
(However, I’m still trying to figure out how this mountain swam to the New World)
If anyone's wondering about the process I used for the background on the Xeno'Jiiva piece, here's the video I used as reference. There are tons of other tutorials out there as well that go more in-depth, but the basics that this one teaches will take you far.
One thing though- I dont think they explicitly state it, but when you flick white paint to make the stars, it's got to be with a dry brush. If you try it with a wet brush, you're just going to get paint all over your hands and none on the paper. I learned this the hard way!
Inktober Day 11: Cruel
There's nothing more frustrating than being two hits away from slaying a monster and finishing a quest when suddenly there's scale mines everywhere, you hear that siren of a roar, and all the ground around you explodes, taking you along with it.
Here's to our favorite B-52 wyvern that loves trolling us.
Inktober Day 10: Flowing
There are so many beautiful and calm places in World that are just slightly hidden away from the main areas, and since they just aren’t visited as often in regular gameplay, I don’t think these little coves or grottos are appreciated nearly as much as they should be.
One upon a time, this was supposed to be a quick environmental sketch to fill an Inktober slot. And then this happened. Seeing it finished, though, I can’t say I regret it. It did come out in a similar style as the Tranquil piece, and I really like it. So later on in Inktober, you’ll probably be seeing more environmental stuff like them, most likely of more of these calm, hidden areas. Happy hunting!
Day 9: Precious
the goodest, most precious boy in all the land
Dodogama is one of the coolest-designed fanged wyverns in World. I personally prefer odogaron, but even I gotta admit Dodo’s cuter.
Just a quickie today since I’m trying to pump these out and get caught up!
Inktober Day 8: Star
For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream. -Vincent Van Gogh
Xeno’jiiva never got a chance to really do anything, to experience any kind of life outside fighting. After all, the moment it hatches, we’re tasked with killing it. This dragon is a wonderful monster, and it’s really too bad he never got to actually see the beauty of the land he was born in.
So my little “only black and white for inktober” rule has been blown so far out of the water it may as well grow legs and start walking. Oh well. This was a wonderful experiment in watercolors, and I got to learn a brand-new technique in the doing. Til next time!
Inktober Day 7: Exhausted
The most exhausting battles are the ones we don’t want to fight.
Personal stuff kept me away for a few days, but I’m back on Inktober and getting caught up! This piece gave me so many problems, most of them having to do with posing the hunter. And I’m getting really fond of the crosshatching w/ bold outlines style I’ve been using for the last few entries, and will probably continue it for the majority of the rest of Inktober.
See you again soon!
