Hello! For those of you who don’t know, my name is Amira Hasib, I graduated last year from Pratt Insitute with a BFA in Film/Video. I am current looking to shoot my first film since college, “Before, After & In Between”, but I need your help!
I’m a black female filmmaker that graduated from Pratt Institute in May 2018. Before, After & In Between will be my first film since college however the reason why it’s important to me is because I want to use it to launch my career and base who I am around its premise–black female vulnerability.
In order to bring this project to life, I need to raise a heaping $10,500!
MOST money will go to EQUIPMENT!!!! since I no longer have access to any since I graduated, and the rest to securing locations, transportation, and feeding the cast! Everyone is working for free and donating their time so it is only right for this project to come to life the way I see it in my head. (all this is broken down on the campaign page)

Through a series of vignettes, we follow Amber as she navigates her way through modern dating–a world full of situationships, misunderstandings, and unspoken feelings. From an awkward first kiss, to an even more awkward first time, Amber laters finds an unexpected first love. “Before, After and In Between” details the before, the start, the end and the aftermath of their situation-ship and calls into question what true love really is.
Before, After & In Between is about finding strength in vulnerability. Black women are often not given room to be vulnerable, and awkward.

I made a film within the same realm while I was a sophomore in college called Last Call. It is a short that shows the start and end of a lesbian relationship through a series of flashbacks soundtracked by a voicemail.

This is a film not about race that it is about race. I want to normalize stories about people of color outside of our pain. There is so much beauty and nuance in our everyday lives that is often overlooked by the white gaze. I want to build a platform with this film and my future films that normalizes black girls as multidimensional people vs. being traditionally portrayed as racist tropes (the mammy, the ghetto/rachet one, the undesirable one).
