This no-nonsense layout puts practicality before anything else, with the possible exception of the bare brick walls. The dark marble tops are eminently stain-resistant and the choice of equipment and fittings was dictated by the functional needs of a keen cook who frequently entertains.

Shiny black walls sharpen colors and give them an even greater intensity than white ones. Here, the red light, the white china and a yellow box are also reflected on the aluminum worktop, so the effect is doubled. Dramatic low-level lighting adds extra depth.
