That was enough of a confirmation for her. She moved to take the laptop, bringing it to her bed and setting it on a few stacked hardcover books. She then moved to sit besides the laptop, getting a grey blanket with blue paw prints on it, throwing it over her shoulders. With a few clicks, the opened up a movie, hugging the blanket close to herself and laying down.

“Let’s watch a movie, ok ?”

He made no moves to prevent her from using the laptop as she wanted to. It was her device, he was just a guest on it. He watched her open a movie. “Yes. Okay.” Maybe today wasn’t going to be a total disaster. He could still spend time with her.

There was a moment of silence afterwards. She was upset, but she didn’t want him to think it was because of him. Pursing her lips once more she moved to grasp her mouse and shake it so the cursor would move.

“Can you see what is happening on the screen ?”

It took him a moment to understand what was happening here. Seeing the desktop was not something that came naturally to him. Her shaking the mouse helped him identify this though. “Yes. I can.”

“…”

She pursed her lips and shook her head. She was upset, but she wasn’t upset at him.

“It’s not your fault. There’s nothing you could have done, you were simply at the whim of magic, unfortunately. I’m just…relieved you’re alright.”

She was still upset, over what had happened to him. He couldn’t help but feel some sense of responsibility for it. “If you insist..”

“…Okay.”

…What now ? She was at a loss at what to do.

“…Is there anything else you need ?”

“Negative. I am okay.” Zero was still rather upset about everything that had happened today. It was supposed to be a good day. Why this?  “... Sorry. I did not mean to cause alarm.”

“…Are you alright now ? Should we try and execute your whole code and delete this laptop’s OS, so you can take over ?”

She guessed that the rest of 99% would be available once he was fully situated into the laptop as the main OS instead of a program.

“I’m fine. Entity Jade is still working on the Android body. I can wait.” This 1% was still more than was ever available to him in that old computer he remained in. He could live with restrictions for a while. He didn’t think Jade was just going to suddenly decide to stop working on it.

Rosa kept her lips tightly together in a thin line. Reaching for the laptop, she closed it and turned it around, taking a screwdriver to open up the behind of the laptop. With a little bit of tinkering, she was able to retrieve the hard drive, setting the useless and broken laptop away and moving to fetch what was needed next. Soon enough, the old hard drive was connected to her own laptop and her eyes were now back on the laptop screen. 

But she kept quiet.

As the old hard drive was connected, he started to scan through its data to find the pieces of himself that were damaged. Confirming their validity, he swapped out the damaged code for these.  “Functionality restored to 1%. Software problems eliminated.”

“…Is there anything I can do to help ?”

Her eyes moved to the drone which had landed besides her, before looking back at the screen. She felt useless, her own mind was slowly becoming a prison of bad thoughts and she could hardly do anything to stop it from going haywire. But she could always act like everything was fine.

“Extract hard drive from previous system. Connect to this computer through external hard drive assembly.” Most of what Zero was currently doing, was in the background. Unseen to her. He was trying to find damaged parts of his code and repair it. This was difficult without something to compare to.

Before she could rush to the kitchen, the drone was already out of the room and flying to deal with it. She heaved a sigh again, moving to rest her elbows and hide her face in her hands. She fell silent, feeling another wave of tears hit her. Her shoulders shook and she sniffled, rubbing away the tears roughly and frowning deeply.

She was taking it very hard right now.

“Did you transfer all of your files ? Or will we need to do some data mining from the other one ?”

The drone dealt with the stove, turning it off and pulling the pan away from the hot element to prevent burning. This food was going to go to waste. A pity. It was very suboptimal. Once he was convinced there was no more danger, the drone navigated back to Rosa. It landed beside her. “Files have been transfered. Damage sustained. Working on fix.”

well hopefully we will fix it soon! i tested all the systems and processes to best to my ability so it is safe to transfer to! if there will be any mistakes or issues i can fix it on the spot!

0.5% capacity. Better than 0% capacity. She heaved a sigh, moving to get up and sit on the chair finally, looking downright exhausted with a dash of concerned and upset.

“We’ll work on that, Zero..”

The drone had come back to life and she gave it a glance, looking back at her laptop.

“…It was on ?”

It was something. They’d work with it for now. In the meantime, the little drone zoomed off to the kitchen to deal with the stove, before it decided to burn the house down.  “I’m fine. And yes, the stove was on. I was creating something to eat. Then, this happened...”

She jumped to her knees when she heard a voice, not brushing away the tears that were still in the corners of her eyes. There was a look of deep concern in her face, lips parted in a silent question as she stared at the screen of her laptop. He had opened up as a separate program, instead of replacing the OS of her laptop.

Shit. That probably was not good at all.

“Zero ! You’re okay, sweetie.. ” 

Hearing him sound like that was disheartening. She frowned, looking at the broken laptop right next to her own. Just looking at it was depressing.

He worked much better when he had direct and unrestricted access to every bit of hardware on the system. He was designed to operate at peak efficiency, but the operating system maintained strict control over everything. He could only do so much as a program like this. Still, it was enough to communicate.  “Functioning at 0.5% operational capacity.” The drone buzzed back to life, moving towards Rosa.  “Is the stove still on?”
