I am really happy that I came across this blog. I learned some new things and reinforced information I already knew. The biggest thing I took away from the information they shared was when they talked about what content each platform should have. I found that extremely helpful and a good guide for what types of content to curate for each platform
They seem to have just started (as they donât have a ton of posts yet) but so far I really like the content they are putting out and I look forward to learning more from them. Most of their content will help me with my final strategy in planning and acting on my ideas. I am definitely going to recommend this to the person who is doing social media at my current work place, hopefully it can help guide them like it has for me. None of their posts are things I haven't necessarily heard before, but it will be really nice to know I have a place to go when needing more information.
When reaching out on each post I thought asking a question would be the most engaging because it would hopefully give them more of a reason to respond. I then in the one post just decided to praise them for the great app ideas for content planning.
I thought Iâd give them some promo and chose to retweet my favourite blog post that I read from their site. I found it extremely informative, they didnât really miss a beat. Something Socialâs twitter account did retweet and like my post in less than a day! The writer of the post retweeted it and said âGlad you enjoyed! :)â Then another writer from the site liked it also. So they appreciated my praise and think itâs cool the author replied to me through her own twitter account.
During the process of looking through their blog and social media platforms their aesthetic really stood out to me, made the world of social media seem more fun and less techy in comparison to other blogs Iâve come across. When scrolling through their Instagram feed I wondered how they got everything to be cohesive and it got me thinking about what editing apps they used. I decided to comment on their last photo, promoting their latest blog post âThe Top 5 Social Media Mistakesâ. I commented at 6:20 on a Sunday night and got a response at 6:50 that same night. They replied âcheck out our blog! We have a write up on the best editing apps for Instagram!â Pretty impressed by the response time. I also thought it was a good ploy to get me to go look at their blog. Also, I did reach out on those three blog posts and did not receive any response. This tells me that they arenât as active on their blog, which makes sense because there was virtually no engagement on any of their posts.
This post interested me because I naturally want whatever platform I am working on to have a good following. I feel like this information is a good place to start and gives a good idea of where to start branching off into things more specific.
All of the points mentioned were kind of obvious in retrospect. Which is interesting because it all seems so daunting. But if you start with the right mentalities it may not be as intimidating as originally thought. Knowledge is power. One of their points were âfind accounts that you think will regram you.â Which is such a good idea. They mention looking for restaurants that often repost customer photos. If the restaurant has a large following it would be really likely people will look at the original account that posted the photo and follow you!
This post only has 4 âlovesâ. No one has commented on it and there does not seem to be a place that shows if it has been shared.
Truthfully there is nothing I would improve and nothing I did not like. I found it very to the point but gave enough information and ideas so that the original question wasnât left unanswered.
I decided to leave them a comment asking âIn your experience have you found that Instagram brands are willing to collaborate? Most likely I would be asking an account that has a more significant amount of followers than me as I am just starting out.â I am curious to hear their experience because of the suggestion they made in this post. No response thus far.
2)Â Top 5 Social Media Mistakes
Now that I know posting regularly is part of the recipe to getting more followers, I think knowing what not to do from here would be most helpful. So this post caught my attention.
âNot pushing the same content across all platformsâ was my favourite point. I really liked that they gave examples of certain content each platform should have. For example they mentioned Twitter should be used for letting followers know who the company is and give background insights with behind-the-scene facts. I found that really helpful because Iâve always thought of twitter as a hard platform to curate content for.
This post has no comments and only 1 love. No share widget available.Â
I wish they could have given an example for what posts without a strategy would look like. I think it would give a better understanding of how to apply a strategy once one has been established..
One of the things I thought they could have mentioned was how far in advance they suggest you plan posts. I did ask that question as a comment on that post and I have yet to received a response.
3)Â Content Calendars
When trying to create my own content calendar I was happy to see they also had a post on the topic. I thought this could give me some good ideas on how to get started and how to have it be effective.
They recommended two apps that can be used to help visually plan Instagram. They basically let you arrange and plan your posts making sure they are cohesive. They also offer analytics and allows follower interaction on comments.
This post has 0 likes, 0 comments and does not have a share widget.
Other than recommending apps I did not find it helpful when trying to create a content calendar. I wish they could have gone into more detail on headers and subjects as well as where to put time of day for posts and differentiating platforms. Would have given me more guidance while creating my own.
On the two previous posts I had asked question so I thought Iâd switch it up by telling them that I appreciated their app suggestions so I let them know by commenting âAwesome app suggestions! Canât wait to try them :)â No interaction yet!
Something Social is a social media and creative agency. They help brands and individuals grow their online presence by giving guidance on branding, strategies and content. They also offer services to help grow and be successful online for you. This blog specifies mostly for Instagram but gives a general knowledge that can be used across all platforms.
What I enjoyed most about this blog is pretty cliche, but itâs very aesthetically pleasing. The simplicity and white background with colourful photos is essentially what I hope to achieve on all my platforms. Also doesnât hurt that the founder is a woman (girl power!).
I find their content written in a way thatâs easy to understand and follow. Itâs not filled with terms a beginner wouldnât understand. As a beginner it makes learning tips and tricks on how to get started easier because I donât have too much background knowledge - yet.
Upon opening their website, the featured image highlights an iPhone taking a picture of a marble covered laptop with flowers and a camera placed to add to the aesthetic. As the first impression of the website, itâs inviting and sets the tone for the viewer as they scroll down. Below is a brief description with the header Who we are. Then begins a checker-like board of sub headers they write about, from food, lifestyle, fitness, fashion and most importantly, social. They then describe under the header What we do, all the services they offer businesses and clients. There is also another checkerboard with a bunch of sub headers that go into more detail of the services that they offer when you roll your cursor over them. They then give examples of who their current clients are followed by a short biography of the founder. The very last navigation button is blog, which is the one where all the good stuff lives. This section is organized as a pinterest/tumblr-like theme with photos and blog headers. All those sections are placed at the top right of the site so you can easily navigate back to them without scrolling. They also include buttons that link you to all their social media accounts.
They post content collectively 5-9 times a month. Social content being posted 3-5 times a month. They have a few writers in-house and post their own content.
Their Instagram is most followed and most interacted with. All those platforms with the exception of Pinterest all promote their blog posts.
When there is a new blog post they do notify across all platforms, but they do not share the exact same content. Their instagram is what intrigued me to read their blog because their content is very bright and fresh looking. Their blog is set up the same way so going from platform to platform is seamless by keeping their style consistent.
Itâs officially summer! Now that we can enjoy the warm outdoors, lets talk sunscreen.
As you know (cause everyone and their mother has told you) you gotta wear sunscreen if youâre going to be outside. There are not a lot of fragrant free options (which goes for most products) but here are my favourites.
Face:
Ombrelle Face Ultra Fluid SPF 60
This sunscreen is fantastic! Though I will say it does have a strong sunscreen smell, itâs not enough to bother me or my skin though. I have oily skin and I wouldnât say it prevents oil but it doesnât make it any worse than it would without it. This formula sits beautifully alone or under makeup. What I love most about it is itâs non greasy texture. Itâs invisible when applied to the skin but leaves it as soft as a babies butt! I know they did recently come out with a tinted version that I am dying to try.
Prime TimeÂŽ BB Primer Cream Daily Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30
I canât express to you enough how much I love this stuff. The tint is very minimal so it definitely has a lighter coverage than most BB creams, but it does give me a healthy glow by evening out redness. I do find that it helps control oils throughout the day. Itâs not crazy with oil control but does the best job at combating oil than others I have tried. Overall amazing because it primes, protects from the sun and helps even out the skin tone. This also comes in 4 shades Fair, Light, Medium and Tan (I use the shade Light and have a yellow undertone). Because the tint is minimal I feel like it would be easier than a foundation to match with different skin tones.
Body:
Ombrelle Ultra-Light Advanced Sun Protection Body Lotion SPF 30
This sunscreen is EVERYTHING. Itâs hydrating, gives the skin the most lovely glow and is super lightweight. I love how this sinks into the skin and is extremely easy to apply. Itâs very similar to the Ombrelle Face Ultra Fluid I mentioned earlier (probably because they are from the same line) so if you liked that one youâll love this. I also really love that this doesnât easily come off when swimming.
