For those wondering, the dance is based on a soul-switching scene from the movie Painted Skin II: The Resurrection and the music is Su Yunying’s Moment.

If anyone is in the Austin, TX area, don't eat at the Whataburger on Guadalupe. They refused service to a performance artist because she showed up in her work clothes.

There are plenty of other perfectly good Whataburger locations to eat at that have not had this problem.

1. Depends who you talk to. Some otherkin can control their shifts enough to actually get rid of them, but most are stuck with any involuntary/spontaneous shifts until they go away on their own.

2. If a fictional human: fictionkin. If a real human from this world: hypothetically, factkin, but a) factkin is an identity that was created and perpetuated by trolls, and b) even if someone did actually experience this, I would be very averse to calling it “factkin” because it links it unnecessarily to the otherkin community. However, I’ve yet to meet someone who legitimately identified as factkin (ie, wasn’t a fairly obvious troll) - which is not to say that they don’t exist, just to say that I’m extremely skeptical of their existence and I don’t have the knowledge to talk about their experiences.

3. Usually, a lot of research and self-examination, comparing your experiences to various creatures.

5. Theoretically infinite, in certainty probably not actually infinite but definitely too many to count in any practical manner.

6. Look in different places, particularly in tags for specific kintypes - and often if you find one member of the community, you’ll find more of us.

You may want to call that last one merfolkkin since merkin could be confused with something else. Also, if you were ‘kin’ with a real person who has been dead for a while that woukd probably be a past life beleif that doesnt really fall within the realm of otherkin.

4. No experience as an angel, but as a polymorph I have two fae forms I shift into sometimes. The fairy form has butterfly-like wings, and as butterflies rest with their wings sticking out behind them, I'm perpetually smooshing them on backs of chairs while in that shift and it causes physical pain in my back, I also find myself much more inclined to vanity during these shifts. As a Bean Sidhe, which has been classified as a ghost or fae alternately, I tend to feel light and floaty and feel deeply inclined towards vocalization, mainly singing, and spend more time than usual brushing my hair. Read up on Bean Sidhe, it'll make more sense.

7. Merfolk shift! Muscle memory is a blessing! In these shifts, my perception of the lower half of my body changes dramatically, but the physicality remains functional as usual. Since my merfolk form is a deep sea angler fish mermaid, not only do my legs feel like a singular floating appendage, my perception of the lower half of my face changes, too, resulting in the feeling of having a huge gaping maw with long sharp teeth, and on my forehead I feel a lure protruding. If I tilt my head to the side, I feel my lure hang in that direction just like any non-prehensile appendage would. To get an idea of how this feels, lean your body to one side and let that side's arm hang limply; it's a lot like that except not nearly as heavy because it's a much smaller appendage and I feel it just above the center of my forehead. Also, as @kinnie-korner was trying subtly to warn you about, I actively discourage any self-respecting merfolk from calling themselves "merkin" because a merkin is a pubic hair wig and this item has had claim to the term for hundreds of years before the alterhuman community first started coming together in the modern era. Merfolkkin is a perfectly suitable alternative, and there are at least as many suitable terms for a merfolkkin available to use as there are types of merfolk out there to learn about, so feel free to use whichever term best fits from those. ^_^
