for a second steve wonders, if he’ll have to stay there and keep convincing bucky to move, but knowing him, it wouldn’t take long before resolve would inevitably crumble and he’d let him in, regardless of what he comes up with or not. lips widen into a smile once he does, moving and shifting to make room for him and the blond doesn’t waste a second longer, before he’s clambering into the tub, careful not to step onto his friend as he does so. and it’s .. far from comfortable.
a tight fit, at best, with the both of them barely fitting in, backs pressed against the corner of the tub, but somehow – it’s still a lot better than both the floor or the bed combined, so steve’s going to take that for what it is.
“ yeah. yeah i am. “ he has the audacity to look pleased, which is hopefully not noticed through the darkness but bucky can probably hear how damn smug he feels through his tone, anyway as he moves a bit, shifting to get himself comfortable as well. he doesn’t mind the closeness – more used to it than anything as he shifts, somehow unable to find a position in which he doesn’t end up semi-laying on top of his best friend, chuckling at what follows. because it’s so undeniably bucky it hurts as shoulders shake with his laught. “ i know. you don’t seem to mind though. “
God forbid if someone walked in them now and saw the sight of two super soldiers trying to sleep in the same bathtub. They’d likely never hear the end of it. He’s thankful that this is just for one night before they move on, this current situation the result of a last minute booking and taking the only handful of rooms left available. He’ll be sure to pick somewhere better for tomorrow but for tonight, they would just have to deal with this.
The smugness in Steve’s voice was clearly heard, rolling eyes. He can’t even be all that annoyed with him, settling for just... general grumpiness over their sleeping arrangements. ❝ I do mind. I mind very much, thank you. ❞ But it’s you, he left unspoken, though clear in his tone. Eyes close, heavy sigh leaving him as arms move to cross over his chest, shifting a little before settling down. ❝ Goodnight, punk. ❞ Sleep was likely not going to happen but that doesn’t mean he can’t try.
Forty minutes pass and he’s still unable to fall asleep, dull ache spreading through his shoulder. The blanket does very little to make it more comfortable and he swore that his arm is starting to go numb from laying like this. Considering a new position for a long while, he decided to finally act on it. And whether Steve’s still awake or not, he started to move again, pulling Steve on top of him so that he can lay flat on his back, sigh of relief leaving lips.
God, that’s so much better already, hand massaging at the sore shoulder and rolling it, he settled down again, not saying a word about the fact the blond was on top of him. One night. He can deal with it. Not the first time Steve’s fallen asleep on him anyways. He just... used to be smaller than this.
