"Archival Preservation En Casa: A Bilingual Zine by Chicano Park Museum & Cultural Center by our (awesome) library intern, Diego Jimenez!

I can NOT tell you how many times I’ve looked at all of my physical photos, all of the slides my dad left me when he passed, all of the negatives, etc. ALL OF THAT… it’s just so much and bogging me down! Well, this lil zine has some helpful hints of how to scan your photos. Do you want to scan them on a scanner? Maybe you can use your camera? Perhaps, you can come to a library that has a Makerspace or Digital Lab? If you want to do that it's best to make an appointment. I don’t think I really emphasized (other than the title) but the zine IS bilingual, so it helps many of us in San Diego! Maybe one day it will be available in other languages, but it is a great start. Diego shows what settings you should use for scanning negatives or photos. There’s a lot of info on how to scan with your camera, too. I think I really need to buy this for myself. I know we’re supposed to push the “loaning is good” thing for libraries, but this looks right up my alley! So yeah – it’s done in conjunction with The Chicano Park Museum & Cultural Center their address is 1960 National Ave San Diego, CA. 92113

"What Childhood Tasted Like" is a zine I about snacks from my childhood - what memories they hold and why I can't have some of these today without tearing up.

I think it goes without saying that I turned out to be an emotional eater.

"Rethinking the Apocalypse: An Indigenous Anti-Futurist Manifesto" by Indigenous Action, March 2020

I've always loved apocalypse stories, from zombie movies to dystopian novels (Stephen King, anyone?). This zine made me realize how often those stories treat the apocalypse as something that's coming, while the authors argue that for Indigenous peoples, the real apocalypse has already happened and continues to happen. As long as people believe in the apocalypse and "end times" COMING, they'll forget that we have seen so much of indigenous people be killed everywhere over time. And it just keeps happening again and again. It completely changed the way I think about our cultural obsession with "end times." Now, full disclosure, you CAN (and I suggest you do) download the pdf off the Indigenous Action website. It's International Zine month! Went in a bit of a fugue state and made this all by hand! Nothing digital! Considering I mainly create art using digital software (and my previous zines have been digitally created too) it was fun going back to my roots of simply cutting and sticking stuff. Less analysis paralysis and more improv, I've found.

Also a very good way of getting rid of the scraps in your house! (So if you're a hoarder, you should def make a zine).

A huge thanks to BrattyxBre for inspiring me to make this! Go watch her cool videos!

Posting a zine I made last weekend for a last-minute submission to the Sunday Zine Jam #25: SPARK. I usually fold up the paper, make the zine & then scan them, but this time, I made individual pages first, scanned each page & then imposed them into a mini through Electric Zine Maker. Every material used for the zine came from my memory box that I decluttered while moving, except the Aldi bag for text.

Really enjoyed reading this zine, Publick Occurences both Forreign and Domestick. I purchased it at the Midwestern Perzine Fest through Sugar Hijinx. It is co-written by Danny Noonan and Meg Luthin. I particularly enjoyed Noonan's "The Walls We Walk," about all the places he lived in, probably because I just moved myself. The zine is elegantly set in Goudy Bookletter 1911!

another mini zine!! :) first one I've done entirely in b&w for a while, usually I prefer color! but the sticker printer I have is a thermal printer that only does b&w, plus it's so much cheaper than color printing haha and I wanted to put this zine in local little free libraries! hope you all enjoy seeing some critters I see in my everyday life :)
