Why am i seeing y’all sleepin on Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi????? This is a book written by a black Nigerian woman, with not only a main character who is black but ALL the characters are back and it’s set in a magical place based off of Nigeria. It addresses inner African American racism (the main character is dark skinned, the king and his family are light skinned), celebrates the natural hair of African Americans, and all the characters are fucking badasses. It’s about a king who cut magic users off from their magic that they drew from their gods, and the journey of three teens to get it back, a magic user, her brother, and a princess. It’s about fighting against oppression.

and when the opportunity arises its never the other way around; an established light skinned character or actress played by a dark skinned actress. its always “im not black enough” in a society that continually tells black girls of the dark variety that their black is way too much... unless they’re showing black women as aggressive and void of any other emotion but anger ie. hollywood, netflix, tyler perry, etc.
