the very idea of this mission was something slightly outside of vlad’s expertise , but nonetheless a charge he wouldn’t dare think of deviating from . his use through the years had primarily seen him on the front lines , using brute force and strength to hold his own while his compatriots had either his back or fought by his side . covert ops as a guerrilla force once trench warfare no longer remained vogue , like some passing fancy . nowadays , everything was scattered and utterly unlike how he was used to being at least trained . though , it did make him reminisce of olden times when he’d engaged in one of the earliest forms of this warfare , considered ahead of his time . battles of the main sort were his expertise , but tracking and hunting ? subjects the vampire was more accustomed to in his times of personal hunts , of evading the band of heroes and seeking one mina harker for the emblematic symbol of his hatred against them to defile with a damning transformation . though he certainly had been used in such ventures before , it was merely … something new , to say the least .
as far as he was aware , vlad was to be partnered with a fellow eastern european , which brought a bit of relief despite not having truly been within eastern europe since at least the cold war , when his homeland had been part of the soviet bloc . still , there was familiarity he hope might still be attainable , despite not having been to romania properly in well over a century , nevermind actually living there . funnily enough , judging by his compatriot’s name , they seemed to bear similar heritage as well – vlad himself being more slavic than romanian , something which had surprised him to learn when he had what with the battery of tests he’d been submitted to and routinely was . as if his constitution was ever-changing compared to humans whose lives were such brief winks between two periods of darkness , even if his own long-life had yet to be considered truly ancient , a title that seemed remanded mostly to those over a thousand years old . these thoughts , though an idle distraction , did keep his mind from anticipating this mission too much .
and of course , amani would be there to fill him in and especially on the entire journey there . the sudanese vampire , though still aligned with DAIS , was someone who often still accompanied him on ventures such as these as an informant and someone to brief him ; a role that had taken some convincing due to her history that was almost as old as vlad himself . his first love , and now his true one , journeying with her to moscow would be far more pleasant than if he were alone . and , of course , as was protocol did his superiors who possessed the seal of solomon was the mission practically branded within his mind , alongside the protocols that would have to be adhered to once they were in russia proper after what would be a fairly long flight . which it certainly was , but traveling by day meant he and aman had time to sleep through the night together , until the chilly and foggy skyline of moscow came into view . vlad had family from long before here , distantly wondering if they didn’t still exist or if there was any surviving lineages . an idle contemplation that didn’t have much of anything to do with him .
by the following evening , he was escorted alone via a black-tinted car to the purported meeting place , leaving amani behind at the hotel where she would act as his reconnaissance agent and the source of intel if he needed it , connected via a purposefully planted bug within his shirt’s collar . unseen , but able to be utilized if absolutely necessary . though , part of him wondered if that wouldn’t even need to be the case . the sleet-driven streets and the miserable cold a post-christmas moscow reflected as poignantly as if he were still in new york . a colorlessness permeated the streets , chill shown in those who huddled into their coats if they weren’t braving the weather with rays of headlights showcasing the the snow that was falling headily , likely a blizzard if it wasn’t coming or only recently past . regardless , if he needed to , vlad could simply distort the weather to suit his needs . a power that his superiors had allowed him to utilize if need be .
the place of question wouldn’t see him exactly dropped off at the front . a few blocks away , within a darkened alley , he disembarked from the location while the driver sped off into traffic . there , vlad shapeshifted into fog and blended fairly well with the weather as he traveled as a puff of steam above the head of unsuspecting passerby , appearing to be nothing more than the emissions from the myriad exhaust vents caught in traffic . once the location was ascertained , the vampire slipped easily past ant inferior security , diffusing beneath the threshold of the door and manifesting again within a dark corner , stepping from it as though he were ubiquitous to the shadows . ‘ adrik , is it ? ‘ vlad greeted with a canted head , his mouth kept in a stern line and a sort of inscrutable look within his eyes . ‘ i’m vlad , but i certainly hope you knew that . now , are we going to brief ourselves or can we begin this hunt to track and hunt down this bastard ? ‘ as if he were playing some common game of fetch . as only a dog of the government only could . though , he wondered why his own presence was necessary . if it was just a common game of cat-and-mouse , why not hire some human bounty hunter ? hm … whatever . as long as the mission wasn’t painfully simple , it would be fortunate if it didn’t prove to be some wasted day and night from the journey from the states .
Pure dumb luck - the only reason he had not seen the man manifest from thin air in the darkest corner of the room. What separated any form of view he might’ve had upon the display was obstructed by a single large brick pillar that separated the main room from a makeshift kitchen, beyond that was the simple fact that Adrik had been facing the wrong direction. Pure dumb luck separated a man who believed in a simplistic belief of Heaven and Hell from the actuality of either of the two or even both. Adrik had flipped a coin without knowing it and he would remain oblivious to the monster who appeared as a man.
His reaction would be to the man’s voice rather than the opening of a door or even a knock. Outwardly, he was a statue - he would simply turn, twisting his frame around so that his gaze fell upon invited guest while inwardly he - he all but shrieked. A single door, a single entrance; there was only one way in and one way out. No click of a lock, no gentle turning of a nob nor even the creek of old, rusty hinges as weight was applied with a delicate push. Silence had flooded the cellar (and while some audible noise fell from the floor above), such noises were drowned out by the density of two feet of solid concrete. So how was it that Adrik now stood utterly shocked in surprise?
Shifting where he stood his gaze would fixated upon the man he now shared the cellar with. Of the two folders in his hand the darker blue was opened, a few pages already flipped to their back. If the other was to crane his neck up but a bit and give his gaze a few extras inches he might see shaded photo on the corner of the page and the remnants of a few sentences. This was the second time he had read over Vlad’s file and while most of it was stained with lines of black ink, it still painted a somewhat clear picture. Working with what little knowledge it provided he could surmise that the man was as every bit as good as he, and thus fully capable of sneaking through that door in utter silence only to step forth from the shadows in a rather pompous fashion. Of course if he was to go with that route, it meant he himself was lacking in a very critical function - simple awareness.
Adrik would remain silent for only a moment longer; his mind tasked with winding back the last minute or so to explain why he hadn’t heard the man enter. “ Right... “ Sporting a hell of a poker face, he’d let out a reply in a low voice and a steady tone while he was still somewhat reeling from the shock. It was not often he stood baffled by someone else’s mastery of stealth; that being the man who taught him and the woman responsible for those teachings. And while he was still somewhat green under the gills he was not so green as to be entirely incapable of simple situational awareness. So while the man before him was spouting cocky lines of dialogue fit for some lousy film, Adrik was still dealing with being snuck up upon.
” - Vlad, yes. “ It took him a moment or two to speak up once more and thankfully he was capable of keeping his tone and voice in check as to not betray the now fading shock. He’d step forward once more, dropping the folders in hand upon the nearby table and leaving his file visible upon the top. “ Ahem. “ Clearing his throat he’d lean against the very pillar that had kept him so very ignorant of the monster before him, looking to his wrist for the time. 12:27pm. They weren’t on a strict time frame; their target was incapable of further movement for the time being, but they could not afford the possibility of him slipping through their fingers.
” -No... We should leave now, before my contact get’s suspicious. “ With a proper sentence spoken Adrik gave away little hint of the Russian flag plastered upon his back. No thick, brutish stereotypical ‘comrade’ accent upon his tongue, in fact one would need a talented ear to even pick up on the sprinkles of Slavic in his tone. Shifting; he’d depart from the brick pillar, opting to lean over the table of scattered necessities as he picked what he needed. A thick vanilla envelope; obviously full of cash, triplets of the mornings newspaper; for the sake of cover and the a pair of shades.
“ If you need any further briefing, we’ll do it on the way. “

truth be told , at this point yuna wasn’t quite sure whether she should be wary or not , as this place was further from her usual haunts on frenchmen street where one was practically in cohorts with all the regulars . though , another truth was that she was still fairly young , and still susceptible to being naive . this man wasn’t some gangster or other shady individual , was he ? this , she hoped , wasn’t something to worry about . it was funny what being a traveling songstress could reveal in all corners of the world . ‘ oh , okay . it’s just , you seem very nice . i wouldn’t want to offend you , sir , ‘ she elaborated with a faltering smile , an inescapable shyness crept over her . even raised american , her okinawan heritage still left an indelible mark upon her . polity and deference were what she’d been raised upon , her mother a strong proponent for it . one thing was for certain : this man made it easier to let her guard down .
holding the inert microphone in her hands , yuna simply allowed herself to relax . this wasn’t some stuck up bigwig she had to worry about impressing where her agent was concerned . or the head of an indie label that would be one of many to consider her between albums – something like that .
‘ thank you very much , sir , ‘ she replied with a genuine blush , resisting to urge to gaze coyly away even as her eyes wandered sidelong . it was at the mention of a job prospect that perked her up . ‘ i am , actually ! i usually do gigs in this way , anyways . well , when originals and covers aren’t being recorded on youtube , and all . would you like my agent’s card ? he’s better at negotiating these things than i am . ‘
Adrik was very good at putting those he interacted with at ease. Visually he could be intimidating; standing at a towering six feet, six inches, sporting thick black hair, a pair of piercing blue eyes and the stature of a man who could put up a fight. Intimidating someone wouldn’t be hard, a glare, a grim fracture upon his lips, a low voice, he could have someone shaking in their boots with just a glance. However, his voice was smooth and melodic, as if his very vocal cords were harp strings plucked by masterful hands. His features could be gentle and soft, a simple smile enough to bring most women to blush. And of course his overall mannerism - the way he carried himself in a conversation - was almost worthy of knighthood.
“ That’d be just perfect, I’ll hammer out the finer details of the negotiations with him. “ They of course meant the monetary aspect of the exchange, in which he’d be very generous for her time and talent. “ However would like to clarify the date and time before hand, “ Words continued to come with a gentle voice, though there was a bit of sternness to these last few. “ Two Sundays from now on the 19th, from five in the afternoon to midnight. - I hope your schedule is open for such a time? “
As words were spoken he’d shift, as if forgetting his own manners. Raising a hand into his coat he’d rummage about for a few brief seconds before plucking out a black card. “ - I seem to have forgotten myself for a moment, “ Pausing briefly to bow his head, he’d hold his card out in exchange for the one she offered. “ Victor Lunst, a pleasure to have met you. “ Artist, photographer, musician - oh how the list could go on and on if he had the time.

how fascinating it would be to become acquaintances with someone who shared a passion for the arts just as much as she! when it came to discussing art, cäcilia was more often than not extremely reserved, saving the detailed analyses of art for the people that well and truly cared. not often did she come across them, but a small part of her was glad to see that there were still some humans around that were just as passionate about the arts as they had been hundreds of years ago. and victor wasn’t entirely off in his analysis either, which surprised the woman more than anything else. it took a well-trained eye to pick out the little bits and pieces that he did, and his knowledge about how quickly the piece had been done and just what everything meant only piqued her interest further. he almost spoke as if he were an art dealer himself.
could that possibly have meant anything?
knowing smirk would continue to linger on her features, sips of bubbling refreshments spared in between the glances the pair spared at one another. if he wanted to, she would continue to talk with him for the rest of the evening, art purchased or not. compared to everyone else in the venue, he was a much needed diamond in the rough.
words are cut short and panic swells in the air, a woman’s screams drowning out any and all conversation that had been going on within the gallery. everything seemed to be passing by in a blur, cäcilia watching the chaos unfold before her while her friend and the artist who made the entire gallery possible have a near mental breakdown. and yet, victor seemed perfectly calm the entire time, taking on the role of ensuring that everyone was escorted out in a timely manner, including the succubus herself. despite the situation, she could only watch with a rather piqued curiosity. it was almost… it was almost as if he–
“cäcilia, quickly.”
and then his hand is upon her, warm and welcoming and reassuring as he leads her calmly and quickly out of the venue before sprinting back inside, further continuing to paint himself as the esteemed hero of the night. her friend continues to sob brokenly next to her, designer chic now ruined with the blubber and snotty messy from the other’s mourning. the roar of sirens fill her ears as firetrucks line up down the street, brave humans pushing the crowd of people back as they began to extinguish what remained of the paintings.
and there, in the dead center of the gallery, she sees the very painting they were discussing consumed in flames.
“are you alright?” came the low murmur from cäcilia herself as the two of them stepped off to the side, crystalline gaze appraising victor for any injuries that might have been missed during all the commotion. “you seemed quite put together during the whole ordeal. had to escort guests from a burning gallery before, i take it?”
The flames of the fire had done a marvelous job on the guests, burning away the liquor and drying their throats of previous screams and outcries. The guests were silent as those brave firefighters went to work, couples and friends huddled together but none could take their eyes off the remaining flames long enough to truly see if they were in one piece. Even as red and blue lights filled the streets and the noise of flickering flames and gushing hoses were drowned out by blaring sirens none were not focused upon the loss. “are you alright?”
Standing beside her still; his attention was lost, staring into the flames as they had begun to die, watching as such beautiful works were being lost. And he was the cause. Even so he still grieved––VISUALLY–– shifting slightly as he stood; reacting to her words, lips warped into a grim curve. Her words did not immediately pull him, his gaze still lingering upon the dying flames. If one had thought this display an act – it was a beautiful one – they might think twice. Visually; he was demonstrating the aftermaths of a small dose of shock, but still he stood calm and collected. Underneath the finely crafted mask however; he was quite displeased with the commotion and while the act was for the most part successful it was done so with a heavy heart.
” . . . No.” It took a few seconds for him to answer and even when he did it was little more than a murmur in return, turning his frame to face her as his gaze was torn away and placed to her. A nervous chuckle would slip past frowned lips, dominant hand reaching up to be ran through raven locks. Features were slowly returning to their previous life, but the shadows of the flames still danced atop them. There was a look on them however, one of confusion. At her chosen words– as if she was accusing him– as if his reaction to the ordeal had been slanted. To suggest such a thing, moments after such an event, why it was almost as if she had been apart of it to. Or at the very least, like her question, she too had some experience.
" I... Uhh... ” He would pause ever so slightly, taking a last glance to the dying fires as they were doused by the professionals. “ At a soirée of mine, “ Once more he would pause, shifting his stance from one foot to another. “ One of the chefs had started a grease fire, it wasn’t a catastrophe mind you, “ Stopping his thoughts for a moment he’d glance once more to the event at hand, the last trickling flames being squashed and suddenly no longer did their figures stand a lit by orange glow but instead by the flashing of blue and red. “ However had I been as drunk as my guests, it could have been. “ Shoulders rolled slightly, as if to finish his words with a soundless ‘It was luck’.
Clearing his throat, letting out a sigh he’d hang his head slightly and muttering under his breath. “ Such a waste of talent. “

a fellow con? kyouka’s expression remained as unfathomable as it had begun with, stare unwavering towards the strange man before her. he was dramatic – if she hadn’t been practically raised around such behavior, perhaps she would have believed him like any normal bystander. however, that was not the case. she could probably predict every trick up his sleeve if she really wanted to, but she didn’t.
her focus was getting back her change purse so she could buy one of those crepes she had been thinking about all day.
` … You are mistaken. I am not a con artist. ` her free hand darted out, calmly plucking what belonged to her out of his grasp and tucking it back within the confines of her kimono.
Either he had been wrong, not entirely unlikely - or she was every bit a capable liar as he and any other con. Leaning back and up, thus increasing the height difference between them even further he’d give her a renewed once over. Features hidden beneath shadows of raven hair, leaving only a smirk visible upon his face. “ Are you positive…? ” After a rather long pause of silence, he’d finally speak, raising a brow as he craned his head downwards. Arms crossed over his chest, features turning into something that appeared wholly curious. There was a chance that he had been wrong, but he was not doubting himself nonetheless.
” I might be a little rusty… Perhaps I wasn’t devoting enough attention to the act… But even so, no common passerby could ever feel my lifts.” A small pause, leaning back once more as hands ever so dramatically lifted into air as he gave a full armed shrug. “ I’d have to be drunk off my ass, both arms tied behind my back- No, not even then. “ Now perhaps that was pure vanity speaking; he was a very prideful man when it came to his talents, but it wasn’t with out some fact. “ If not, then what? “
sukkubxs:
“well, we wouldn’t even be in this debt in the first place if you hadn’t burned my goddamn gallery down.” bitterness laces every word that graces her lips, but the emotions aren’t unfounded. it wasn’t so much the lost money that bothered her as much as the nonstop wailing from her friend at all the art that had been destroyed. the night was, after all, for her, and not cäcilia. she didn’t mind comforting the friend, of course, but that seemed to be the only thing they knew how to talk about nowadays. alas, he did make a good argument. as much as she loved lavish goods and living a luxury lifestyle, it took more than a few sweet words and a dinner date to win her over.
“i will say, i’m impressed you’re able to dismantle the system so easily.” she mutters lowly, watching him work from afar with arms crossed. and just like that, the place was free for the evening. well, for a few hours, at least. the museum didn’t open until ten, but security and other employees would roll in before then. so as much as she wanted to take the scenic route and walk around, their time was sadly limited. but that didn’t mean they couldn’t have a little fun while they were here.
“i’m feeling rembrandt. dark and melancholy, no? maybe we’ll even find something to take along the way.”
“ Frequent visitor privileges. “ Adrik; no matter the persona he dawned would never apologize for something, regardless of how damaging the act might be, more than once. Having already stated the burning of her gala was little more than business, had felt little need to even do so once let alone restate said fact. He had offered to pay for the damages; directly to her friend, flourishing her with lavish remarks upon her art and as a fellow artist, albeit a more successful one, could hardly stand idle when her dreams went up in smoke. If the woman accompanying him tonight had a heart, she’d at the very least, grace him a few points for such a gesture. Regardless if she did or not however, the point still towered ever so tall; he owed her.
“ Perhaps a few if we’re lucky... ” He was prepared of course; a handful of cases slung over his shoulder should they decided they wanted to splurge. Taking the initiative, the thief would turn and march towards their chosen destination. Stretching out a hand as he began to stroll forward, running the tips of gloved fingers along smooth velvet ropes. The hand would jump before ever hitting golden posts, dancing along the crimson guide in an ever so cheerful and somewhat childish manner. “ We best hurry... Beat the rush and what not. “
truth be told , the venues she usually performed at often varied , with her reach casting a wider net of possibility . though new orleans would always be her home , even in the timeless city could things cycle so rapidly that reach return begat a fresh face for her to be availed to . so , for a time , a new venue meant new rules : smile pretty , treat the patrons well , and sing he heart out . simple , and clear cut as her agent defined them . though , she still wondered after this man’s intentions . as protocol was too easily muddied between crowds , it was something to play by ear .
‘ well , if you’re a VIP guest , that’s always a reason to be backstage , i suppose , ‘ she reasoned , though it was a wonder with what the richer patrons could get away with . money talked , and sometimes , it shouted . ‘ i mean , i’m sorry if i was rude to you , sir . i’m not actually a regular act here . just for the next week , really . ‘
The simple smile that hard been gracing hisfeatures would grow, features remaining sweet and innocent – while it wasn’toften he had nothing to hide, this was one of those particular moments. So he’dshake his head at her apology, hands rising from his pockets to feign a defense. “ Ah! No need to apologize ma dame - how could you of known? “ A whimsical and friendly tone would dropfrom his lips, silver tongue at work with each syllable of his words. Raisedhands would fall and be returned to the gentle linen pockets they hadpreviously been dug into. “ It isquite alright. “ Tipping his head everso slightly, lips drawn into a gentle smile, features upon the edge offorgiveness and understanding he’d casually brush the moment aside.
He’d let her return to her escape, and he himself would return his attention to the stage. However, he would not let her get too far away, speaking up and paying her with a compliment. “ You’ve a lovely voice, talented and unique, “ Pausing for a moment, he’d turn, raising a hand to fiddle with his tie as he would turn to face her. “ Perhaps it would be for hire? “ An abrupt question, but one that remained within the general domain of their surroundings. Innocent was his inquiry, and so was his demeanor.
kyouka’s stare was unwavering, unblinking – something that unsettled nearly everyone she came into contact with. it was the sheer sharpness of those blue eyes, mingled in with that unfathomable look that got under people’s skin. like she could see right through them. her grip didn’t loosen in the slightest, fingers still in their death-like grip as she continued to simply stare up at the taller man.
most people, when caught during a misdeed, tended to panic – but he was feigning innocence. she ignored it, head twitching ever so slightly towards the left side of him. ` … Your left jacket pocket. That’s where you put my change purse. It was for crepes. Give it back, please. `
Calm, coldly so,feature remained intact in their appearance of innocence, even with such evidence before him. Eyes as ice wouldfollow her gaze, landing beneath the very jacket pocket she was implementing. Featureswould break with a exclaimed breath, lips curling into what could be called agentle smile. “ Ah! ” Free hand would rise from his side, slowly so, long digits digging into thechosen pocket and retrieving was what hers. Plucking it forth from it’s linenprison he’d hold it up, daintily so, gaze locked upon it. A glare would flickeracross his face, one of shock and confusion – as if he had never seen it before– as if he didn’t even know it was there. He was so very good at carving hismasks.
“ My, my,my…. However did this get in there…? “ With the rhetorical inquiry made his gaze would shift, brows scrunchingupwards as if he didn’t really know, one rising higher than the other. Calm andsweet vocals strumming out the perfect pitch of blissful ignorance as silvertongue went to work. That innocent mask still clinging to his features, butwith a small grin it would wash away as if it were nothing more than an itchupon his nose. “ Had I known itbelonged to fellow con, I’d never have laid a finger upon it. “ That devious grin only grew, now carvingitself onto previous mask. There was some truth in his last words, had he known– had he cared to know – he might not of taken it.

@zlodeyski· – ;
it was highly seldom that guests found themselves behind the scenes at the local revue , but in a french quarter chock full of them , the tourist trap seemed more prone to invite the bold and drunk than other sectors of new orleans . the young woman had only just finished her set for the evening , anticipating a trolley ride home to the garden district where her home was . curiously mismatched eyes honed upon the mysterious man , the brunette’s head canted and arms folded somewhat defensively ; he was far taller than her , after all .
‘ um , excuse me , sir – are you lost ? patrons aren’t really allowed backstage … ‘
Not one that could resist the theatrical, what ever it’s form; be it upon the sidewalk or within grandiose halls of marble, the man was enjoying himself. However, one such as he would not find himself among the drunk and the bold. No, no, no. Not unless he was bored and needed a quick high from picking pockets of wallets and wrists of watches. Not one to spoil a good show with such behavior, he’d find his way behind the curtains in his usual manner. The silver-tongued sort. The sound of a woman pulling his gaze from curtain obstructed view, body turning only slightly as she spoke out. Features became pleasant, appearing innocent, as he replied in kind. ’ ... Apologies... But I was told I could watch from back here. “

“you know, when i said you owed me at least a few dates, this isn’t what i had in mind,” came the hushed whisper from the demoness, the woman shooting a searing glare at her heist partner for the evening. it’s not like she hadn’t stolen something before, but she wasn’t exactly all that interested in something like this. why do all the hard work when someone else was willing to put their identity and freedom on the line? but regardless, he had seemed adamant about her coming along.
and that’s how she ended up in the national gallery at four am on a heist mission.
" I figured a simple dinner would be boring after what brought us to this debt. “ His response came with little more than a blank look and rolling eyes. He had a valid point though; could dinner, no matter how extravagant the restaurant, really compare to the burning of her gala? HARDLY so. After all, he was a man who aimed to whoa. Head would turn from her, returning his focus to the alarm system before him, hands hard at work as he snipped at wires only to cross them with glowing device. A few soft ticks would follow before low beep signaled it’s task completed. The place was theirs, from alarms and cameras to door locks and the lights. He’d tap at the screen a few times, turning his frame to her and timing his rising gaze with the activation of dimmed lights.
“ Besides, the only way to truly appreciate the National Gallery is to do so when no one’s around... Now, which exhibition shall we hit up first? Rubens and Rembrandt or perhaps Michelangelo and Sebastiano? “

kyouka’s criminal upbringing made her more aware of every tactic that may be used – like in this situation. the stranger bumped into her as a distraction, sneaking a hand to steal the small pouch of money she had. his only mistake was that he had picked her. assassin reflexes kicked in, small hand darting out in a flash to grip his wrist in a steel grip.
` … That is for crepes. Give it back, please. `
Alleviating boredom for one such as himself often came in the form of simple misdemeanors such as pick pocketing those who got too close. A bump here and there, man or woman; a wallet or watch was taken, perhaps even a ring or bracelet. Simple things that; when taken swiftly and with delicate precision, did not go missing for a few blocks. He was rarely caught, often only when he wished to, or in situations such as this; when he came across someone that stood as kin.
Hand suddenly held in a vise of a grip, gaze lowered and brow raised in curiosity and just a dash of shock. Young. “ ... I’m sorry? ” As if he hadn’t heard her. As if he was innocent.
