Yuki had sighed and he shook his head “It’s how I said.. Akito isn’t hurting the others… Not anymore… He isn’t yelling at them… Because I’m there.” Yuki didn’t know how else to explain it. “That’s where I go. But now you have to swear you won’t tell anyone, if you do… He will only turn back on the others again.”

     Kyo furrowed his brows as he listened to the rat explain. Even if he had said it in the simplest words, he still didn’t understand. Yuki was letting… Akito hurt him on purpose? Kyo went pale in the face, looking at the rat in shock. “W-what?” he stammered. “I… Yuki, what the hell?!” The cat didn’t know how to react.

“Look... With the deal, we don’t have to worry about him going after miss Honda. Or.. Blind someone else. If he takes it out on me.. It won’t build, and him lashing out isn’t as bad, but you have to keep quiet about it. The second someone steps in, or someone knows, he will break the deal”

“So… You… Don’t know?” He asked before he shook his head Yuki couldn’t get out of this now. “Not here… I won’t tell you here” He said and Yuki had started walking, the last thing he needed was someone else to hear them.

After a bit of walking, Yuki had sat down on the grass quietly, how could he explain it? They weren’t friends, Yuki didn’t know what they were anymore, they had seemed to have made peace. “It.. Was a deal..” He said quietly before adding. “Akito isn’t hurting the others… As long as I’m there, you included.”

     Kyo felt confused. Yuki was never generally an open book, but there were a few serious things he kept from him and Shigure. The three shared the same curse after all and were considered family… what could Yuki have been hiding? Nevertheless, the cat followed beside the rat, hands stuffed in his pockets. 

     When they found a quiet enough place, Kyo sat too, leaning back against the tree and looking at Yuki slightly concerned. “A… deal?” he echoed. He furrowed his brows. “What do you mean?” he asked nervously, at this point unsure what to expect.

That was when Yuki froze. Kyo knew? How? Yuki then looked at him “…Not a word to anyone… You can’t tell anyone Kyo” Yuki said before he quietly added “Please..” With Kyo knowing why Yuki came to the house, Yuki needed to make sure the cat wouldn’t tell anyone else.

     “I’m not gonna tell anyone!” Kyo said. He hated being thought of as a tattletale, even if it was against the rat. If this had happened months ago, he would do anything to make sure Yuki got caught just to spite him – but again, he’d grown up. “So what? What is it? What’s wrong with you? If you tell me, that’s the only way I won’t tell anyone else.”

"So... You... Don't know?" He asked before he shook his head Yuki couldn't get out of this now. "Not here... I won't tell you here" He said and Yuki had started walking, the last thing he needed was someone else to hear them.

When the rat stopped the coughing, he looked up to the other “You already answered your own question. I’m getting sick” He said with a small shrug as he started to keep walking “It’s just a cold, nothing to see Hatori about.” Yuki didn’t know how long the cat had been following him, how much he knew, but Yuki turned to him “Why are you following me? You aren’t fighting me anymore. Did you give up? The others already treat you like family, wasnt that what you wanted?” He asked with a small tilt of the head.

     “Yeah, but if it was just a cold, you would see Hatori about it. He’s the family doctor. You wouldn’t go to another doctor outside of the family if you weren’t trying to hide something,” Kyo argued, crossing his arms in front of his chest as he looked at Yuki. He huffed. “I followed you ‘cause I’m curious. I know you got a secret, and I found it out.” He ignored the rat’s comments about him giving up. Maybe that’s… what happened to him, but he didn’t want to come to terms with it yet.

That was when Yuki froze. Kyo knew? How? Yuki then looked at him "...Not a word to anyone... You can't tell anyone Kyo" Yuki said before he quietly added "Please.." With Kyo knowing why Yuki came to the house, Yuki needed to make sure the cat wouldn't tell anyone else.

Yuki however stopped walking and he had turned to cough a few times. He had started to get sick but he couldn’t see Hatori for anything. Not now.

     “I don’t care! No one can tell me where I can and can’t be! You’re sick, aren’t you?!” Kyo demanded of the rat, hand balled in a fist as he looked straight at Yuki. “Why aren’t you going to Hatori instead? This is against the rules, you know!” He stopped yelling for a moment when he heard the rat coughing, now all of a sudden concerned. “Jeez, rat… what’s wrong?” he asked, tone now genuine.

Yuki had walked out of the pain house though he had jumped when he saw the cat. What was he going to do now? Simply say he was only greeting the person he feared? He knew Kyo wasn’t stupid. Yuki had adjusted his coat and had walked past him to head out of the gate. 

     Kyo knew better than to just let the rat roam around going to secret places. He didn’t know why it mattered so much to him that Yuki had been so secretive, but it just felt wrong living with someone he didn’t know. He didn’t have to be friends with Yuki, but he just needed to know if he had been talking to Akito about the fact that he’d gone home after being up in the mountains for so long. 

     When he saw where the rat had ended up, he waited until Yuki left the building before jumping out at him. “A-ha! So this is where you were all this time!”

“One isn’t hidden anymore.” He said as though when the phone rang, Shigure had left to answer. Yuki had put food on his plate to bring up to his room however he stopped when Shigure returned and told Yuki he left his medicine back at the main house. Yuki had only nodded and went up stairs, maybe that was his way around the suspicious cat. He would go for a checkup. At least that would be what he told the cat.

     Medicine? Kyo knew that Yuki had asthma before, but he didn’t know it was still prevalent at their age. With a huff, he didn’t think too much of it and let the rat go upstairs. It was clear they were still cold with each other, but even Kyo didn’t want to fight. Maybe it was just a mood of his… he was exhausted from fighting and not getting anywhere, slowly coming to terms with the painful idea that he would never be as good as Yuki, so why bother trying?

Yuki had remembered saying that, the test was easy, but he didn’t think Kyo was paying attention when he said that. “Yes… Well it doesn’t hurt to study” He said before he sighed and slowly got up “Fine..” He said as he walked and slipped past the cat.

    Kyo rolled his eyes and shut the door behind him before following him downstairs to the kitchen table. He took his rightful place and began eating. “So where’d you run off to earlier anyway, rat?”

When asked, Yuki only glanced at the cat before he put some food on his plate "That isn't your business. You know where the garden is so I went elsewhere" He said with a small shrug, letting Kyo work out where he was, wasn't something he would allow.

Hearing the door open, the rat quickly snapped out of his thoughts and looked back to his book. When he realized it was Kyo he had thought about not answering but he shook his head “No-.. Yes… I will eat later”

The rat was hungry but he was hurting and just wanted some time for some pain killers to kick in. “I have a test tomorrow.”

     “Test?” Kyo echoed, furrowing his brows. “But you said you didn’t even have to study for that test. C’mon, it just takes fifteen minutes to eat.” He didn’t even know what was pushing him to bother Yuki so much. Any other day, he would’ve slammed the door shut and stomped downstairs if Yuki had been so stubborn with him. But today just felt different somehow.

With a small sigh, Yuki sat on his bed for a few minutes before changing his clothes and he sat at his desk, head in his hand as he started to be lost in thought as he looked outside. 

     By the time Yuki went home, Kyo had forgotten about their weird altercation earlier in the garden. The rat had secrets to keep that he just couldn’t be bothered to try and open up. It had been established long ago and it would remain this way: the two would never get along according to the old folktale. When it was time for dinner, Kyo went upstairs and slid Yuki’s door open. “Hey. Shigure said dinner’s ready. Are ya gonna eat or not?”
