Sweat poured from his forehead as he worked quickly against the stand he fought up against. It was his time off, no wars were going on at the moment in the area. No political affairs he was in or needed to be in at the moment. No big issues with enemies and yet here he was training to keep him and the voices in his head at bay. His body was tense and quick, a swing left and then right with only a few seconds to spare in between. His wrapped hands gripped on to the shoulder pads of the dummy, flipping himself over with ease like all the times he has practiced before this moment. One clean cut of his sharp blade and the dummies head was hanging loosely by a thread or two. Making the hybrid sigh in annoyance since he would have to sew it back in it's place later on in the evening.
The hybrid turned to the next stand to his right, this one had needed to be replaced a long time ago. Getting the okay a couple days early from Phil to destroy it however he liked to and just to clean it up after. The blade ran toward the dummy stand there, the breeze blew it slightly to the side. Yet it didn't even matter to the warrior as he ran up upon it. Sword was already deep in to the material of the dummy that stood there. The blade took out his blade, taking a few more quick steps as he practiced a parry move he has wanted to master through and through. With a satisfied smile his blade dug through the fabric, ripping off the arms. They fell tot he ground, two soft thuds along with a third of the head falling off and on to the ground as well. The warrior was never done with his training, he never wanted to be. Even though he has one countless wars, several fights among the greatest enemies he had, several sparring matches against Dream and even a few against Phil. He was never perfect, he would never be no matter how hard he tried to be. Leaving the empty pit in his stomach bare, not even his blood lust could quench the need of the emptiness that stowed away inside him.
As he stood there he felt eyes on him, the warrior held his blade tightly in his grasp. Wanting to turn and fight his next training dummy, just to restart and fight them or at least the ones with less damage all over again. Yet the feeling of a gaze never subsided within him, to many wars will do that to you evidently. Being able to tell someone was watching you from either a close or a far distant was a blessing and a curse at the same time.
"You do know that you could always relax once and a while ya know" A small smirk formed on Techno's face once he heard the smooth British accent of the musician coming outside on to the porch of their get away home out in the woods. The home where so many good memories were shared in over the years by the makeshift family they liked to call each other. Techno wiped his forehead of sweat before turning to face him. Catching the towel Willbur had thrown at him with ease, only catching the brunette roll his eyes softly as he slowly walked over and sat down beside him. A thud of the woods flexing from the sudden shift in weight of the two sitting there on the top step. The clang of the metal against the wood was loud as the warrior's sword rested behind him.
"Thanks" muttered the warrior softly in appreciation to the brunette's action. Techno's eyes stared out in to the woods as he rested his towel in his lap, folded neatly even though he would use it again. Feeling Wilbur's eyes staring at him like they were burning in to his soul. Something he always hated really, he always hated eyes on him, it made him feel on edge and anxious. It was something Phil always had done to him too, he always made him confess when something was wrong just from one stare. Techno turned his head slightly, earning a small smile from the brunette as he fidgeted with the string on his sleeve that hung loosely by his wrist. Almost like he was hiding something...guilty is another answer that came to mind as well.
"How are you Techno?" Wilbur finally asked, confusing the hybrid as he sat there in silence. How could he even answer him? Wilbur knew about his anxiety, his past wars and nightmares on occasion that occurred in his messed up head. Maybe even a tiny bit about his voices from what he remembered Phil telling him years early when he had asked what was wrong with him. Techno sighed softly as he grabbed his towel and wiped the back of his neck, he didn't know how to answer honestly. How could he, he was never okay in the slightest, there was always something going on.
"I'm....okay" He had to think about his answer, earning a unconvinced look from the brunette sitting next to him. The brunette rolled his eyes as he rested his chin on his palm, the boards creaked as he fixed his weight to his other side. Tracing over his initials he carved in to the wood years earlier.
"Techno..."
"Yes"
"That isn't your real answer and you know it" The blade knew he could lie very well actually, or very well to some he should say. His answer was not convincing enough yes, but what could he have said to get a better reaction out of the bard he called family. "Yes I am totally fine Willbur thank you for asking?". He wished he could be okay though....he wished that answer was the truth, and yet it was far from it. A sigh left his lips, muffled on the sides from his small tusks he hated dearly. His grayish blue eyes stared calmly at the grass as the wind moved the leafs that laid upon the earth. For a normal person it would be easy to sit and relax, yet his head was filled with nonsense he couldn't tune out accept for rare occasions.
"I'm....anxious Willbur" The warrior used his formal name, keeping it business as pure usual like the gremlin child always said from time to time. The brunette's head perked up in surprise, never hearing his tense older brother figure speak his true feelings out in the open like this. It was always a lie, a lie anytime anyone asked him family or not. A lie to keep Tommy and Ranboo from worrying about him, a lie just to avoid the constant prying at him for the truth. For once he was an open book, his tall guarded walls lowered just an inch. But that was all it took for the brunette in the beanie to feel happy, to feel close to his distant brother again like the years before. The times he so dearly missed if dawned upon him sometimes when he would watch how his family would act sometimes.
"I could tell something was up....you seem more tense then usual out here...This place, it's supposed to calm us of the harsh world that eats away at out sanity bit by bit...Tell me what is troubling you Technoblade?" A small chuckle was all his reply was, the brunette turned to see the look on his face.
"Now you're starting to sound like Phil Willbur" Techno replied instantly, making Will bite down on his tongue almost to stop talking. He didn't want to ruin this moment, he didn't want Techno to feel like he needed to tell him anything. Techno's hands gripped on to his towel as he sat there, a quick glance was all it took to see Will's face. The look of anxiety, fear that was building up within him. He hated that look, fear was an emotion he experienced regularly. Fear was something he never wanted to see with his family. He didn't want to see him as the monster he truly was. A dark cloud now loomed over his head as the voices screamed and shouted at him. Yet he felt like he needed to reply in order to get the brunette out of this feeling his was having at the moment.
"I*sigh*...I feel anxious because nothing has happened...I know this place is shielded off from everyone and everywhere else for the time being. But I'm half expecting to have someone just come out of the bushes and attack me...attack us here. I keep having to side track myself in order to not think so much about it. Yet I can't seem to help myself at times..." His fists clenched as he sat there, hating that he was confessing what was in his head at the moment. Yet if it made Willbur feel happy then he would.
"My life if filled with surprises....*looks at hands* violence, bloodshed...being able to just sit and relax for the first time in forever doesn't sit well with me. I need to do something, I need to train in order to keep myself busy from everything else running through my mind. Sitting here wasting my time when someone could be destroying my base...All the possibilities are just endless of what could be happening out there. " The blade finally replied, confessing his dark feeling to his brother. As he turned to look at him though it didn't seem to help any like he thought it would. The warrior glanced at him confused, his brown eyes just avoided him some what as he sat. Moving his guitar over slightly since it was resting up against his back harshly from how tight the strap was around him. The brunette just gazed at his guitar in his hands, almost like it was going to do something right then and there. The pinkette just simply gazed back out toward his training dummies toward the side of the woods. How destroyed and badly beaten they looked, knowing he would need new ones sooner or later.
"How are You feeling Will?" Techno asked, not being one for sentimental moments like these. He never wanted to look soft and vulnerable, but the musician needed him now so that was what was needed. The brunette's eyes glanced over to the pinkette sitting there beside him, watching as he moved his leg to lay on top of the other one. The truth was, he didn't know how he was feeling either. Even though no words left his mouth, the warrior could tell what was running through his mind as he sat there. They thought to much alike at times it was sickening, so if he was thinking at all like him then he knew what was wrong. He knew what could truly trouble him as they sat in silence.
"I don't know..." The brunette continued with a solemn look written upon his face. Techno could only wait patiently for his answer, not intending to pry and beg for one in return.
"You don't have to say anything if you don't want to, it's fine if you want to keep it to yourself" Willbur nodded his head, still trying to gather the right words in his head before he spoke.
"I....I don't think I belong here right now if that makes any sense to you...who am I kidding of course it makes sense to you Techno" Silence was shared between the two for a couple seconds. But that silence was agreed upon by both of them, the silence said many words then non like some would think. The pinkette's gaze was shifted over to the brunette sitting beside him. he almost felt bad for his so called brother to go through this mental trauma like he goes through. It will never be half of what the warrior has to deal with. But even some was enough to push some one over the edge even just a little bit.
"You feel trapped....almost like you are taking up space out here" Techno replied, only to get a nod of agreement in return by the musician. Techno truthfully didn't know how to cheer up his brother sitting there, when he had these thoughts he would try to push them away as far as he could. Sidetracking himself with something else or doing something like fighting in wars to prove his worth.
"You know I feel that way all the time too....ever since Phil found me I almost felt as if I shouldn't even be here with you all. No matter how many times he insisted that he found me for a reason, that fate brought us together. I would never listen, this feeling would just keep grinding away at my thoughts... I never felt like I belonged here...belonged with any of you...and yet here we are, what 21...22 years late and still everyone is together" The blade finally spoke, trying to show that there was nothing to fear about that emotion his brother was feeling at the moment. Reassurance was hard for the blade to achieve with the people he cared for, he normally was there to fight for them, to protect them. Talking and caring was more Phil and Will's side of things.
"Did you really feel that out of place?"
"Will....I literally have tusks and pointed ears....don't you think I sort of stick out some in my hybrid form I take?" The blade replied, hearing his brother's laughter soon after which was what he hoped for even though he wasn't trying to be funny and make a joke.
"I guess you're kind of right there....but you do belong here Techno, you belong here with us"
"And so do you...don't feel like you're trapped and taking up space here willbur....I know sometimes it feels that way...Sometimes it feels like you can't do anything for anyone but you can't let that dwindle upon you when it's not true" The blade replied quickly, making the musician realize what the lesson was with his brother's words. The brunette gazed back at his brother, stretching as he sat there. With a couple satisfying pops of his back he was back to leaning on his knees. The brunette smiled warmly at him, noticing the quick glance over toward him. Techno nodded his head, not needing to take the thank you the brunette wanted to gladly reply in return. Techno's scarred hand grabbed his old iron blade that sat behind him. Standing up with the help of Will as he sat his hand on his shoulder to give him a boost. For living as long as he has he could never admit sometimes how hard it was to stand back up after sitting for long periods of time. The blade stood there, staring down at his brother that still sat on the first step of the old porch.
"Are you happy with your little intervention we had?" Techno asked as he raised his eyebrow, pretending not to care in the slightest. The brunette paused for a second, recalling everything that had just happened to him in the past couple minutes of sitting there. He quickly nodded his head, a smile was still on his face as he gazed at his brother standing there. He could see the small smile on his face as he stood there patiently.
"Very happy actually...you helped me think through some things...so thank you" Willbur replied as he fixed his position on the stairs to up against the house. His guitar was in his hands ready to play like he was wanting to do in the first place coming out here. The warrior nodded his head in return before turning to go and fight his dummies once more like he was doing earlier on.
"And Will"
"Yes?"
"Don't tell Phil I said any of that stuff alright...he already worries enough, I don't need to make him grow any more gray hairs then he already has from the two of you" Willbur chuckled softly at Techno's joke he was making.
"Sure Techno sure....I just want you to know you can talk to me alright...that's if you want to to get stuff off your chest ya know" They were silent again, the warrior stopped walking toward his dummies in the yard.

The cold night air made his cheeks cold with windburn as they turned pink. Any time he breathed out he could see the fog in front of him in the dark scenery. The sound of snow crunching underneath each step he would make as he made it back toward the house in the middle of basically no where for now at least. The plans of moving were always brought up in the house hold every once in a while. Sometimes it would be for the same reason, other times it would just be one of them complaining about the lack of area they have near the city. Or the fact that it took an hour to travel to the nearest village for trading. The boy sniffed and coughed lightly in to his shoulder as he dropped the handle of the sled that dragged more wood toward the house. He felt as if he would be doing a good deed getting extra wood out near the shed. Knowing dadza would have to go out and grab some once some body notices the last log is catching fire and they have ran out.
This was his chance to prove himself to his family he felt once he left the house earlier on. Feeling as though this would prove how independent he could be by completing the task his brothers would handle. His wish was to help out more, even though that was a dream to some people to not take part in chores. Yet he felt as though he was freeloading and wanting to take part in helping around sometimes. This being one of them since no one was out taking care of the job he noticed needed to be done. It was easy to be fair, it wasn’t like he had to go and cut a tree down personally. There were extra logs stacked by the small shed near the house they used for storing things. It was extra from Phil cutting trees the other day for the new fence he was making around the house they lived in. The task took a couple of minutes at most, stacking the small bit of logs on to the sled he dug out of the shed beside the pile. Yet even in those couple minutes of him standing out in the cold he could already feel his fingers being frozen, not to mention his cheeks and nose that were uncovered.
A small sigh left his chapped lips as he ran his gloved hand through his hair. Neglecting the fact his glove had snow on it’s finger tips before he ran it through his blonde locks. He bent down quickly, picking up a couple of logs or at least the amount he could handle. Not mentioning the fact he tried to carrier even more, but his strength was no match to his elder brother that could carry three maybe even four times his size. Not even grown up yet, but his mind seemed to age faster then his body did. The steps were loud as the creaked when the pressure of the blonde’s boots hit them. Trying to clear off as much snow off of the bottom of them as possible so he didn’t drag any inside. With his hands full it was hard to reach the door knob at first. Yet he tried his hardest and succeeded in grabbing a hold of it when he almost gave up. The boy sniffed slightly to try and clear his stuffed nose. Wishing for warmth that inside brought. Wanting the comfort by the fire in a warm blanket after dinner was done. The thought of warm dinner made the boy lick his lips slightly as he thought of what his dad would make for them this time. The door creaked slightly as it opened up all the way. The boy’s back was up against it as he struggled to take his boots off with only his heels. With a few grunts of annoyance his boots were finally kicked off to the side which he would have to put up later on. The sound of the house was some what unsettling, no noise was heard of anyone talking. Confusing the blonde slightly as he stood there, blaming his hearing loss on the loud wind that blew outside. That was until he heard,
“TOMMY!” The boy glanced quickly over to find his brunette brother racing down the stairs towards him in a worried fashion. The blonde was confused, startled even when the brunette bent down toward his level of height and cupped his cheeks. His brown orbs gazed upon him up and down as if he was checking him for injuries. Yet all the boy could do was stare in confusion as he heard two more pairs of foot steps coming toward them both by the front door. Why was everyone rushing to him, did he miss something that happened while he was gone?
“My goodness there you are, where were you! You had us worried sick we were looking for you everywhere around the house!” Next came his father that bent down to look at him as well. Taking over what the brunette was originally doing in the first place. Tommy only smiled softly as he tried to hold up the logs he had gotten for them. A triumphant look on his face as he smirked widely. Proud of himself still when he thought they weren’t at the moment.
“I got you some more wood Dadza!, w-we were running out of logs for the fire place so I went to go and grab some more outside as a surprise! And I think I did a pretty good job if I do say so myself” Tommy replied as he heard his dad sigh softly to himself as he ran his hand over his eyes slightly. Tommy watched as his dad grabbed the logs carefully from him. Handing them back to his hybrid brother who understood what their Dad was meaning without saying a single word. The boy was confused still as he watched their dad look back toward him as he stood there. Taking notice of his red cheeks and nose that weren’t covered by his scarf like he had told him to do when out there. His warm hand went to his shoulder, resting it on top softly with a reassuring squeeze.
“I really appreciate you going out to get some wood Tommy...but you should have told someone where you were going and waited for one of us to go with you. You worried us to death because we didn’t know where you were. I don’t want you to ever do that again okay. Just tell us first before you go out there on your own. Your know about the mobs that roam in the darkness” Tommy glanced to the floor in sadness as stood there. Were they not proud of him for getting all of this wood by himself? He thought that Dad would see him as strong and independent after completing this task all alone. He always sent Techno to go and do that job on his own he noticed over the last couple of years. He has gone to the village alone too and so has Will from what he has recalled. So why was it different for him? Why was he treated like he was so fragile and pathetic, like he needed someone to hold his hand and help him with everything. He could handle himself, he was already 10 going on 11 soon enough. He shouldn’t be treated a small child anymore like they are doing to him, he isn’t a child like they think he is.
“But I just thought that you could use the wood, I know you always complain about not having any on stand by when we run out. I thought I was doing something nice for you by going out and taking care of it. I can handle myself Phil I know I can, you’re teaching me how to use the sword and I can do some moves with it. I can protect myself-”
“I know you can, I didn’t say anything about that Tommy. I believe that you could protect yourself if it came down to it....But I want to make sure that you’re safe and protected even if you do know how to....You’re my youngest and I don’t want anything to happen to you and know I could have been there to help alright. You don’t know what could happen out there on your own and I want you to be prepared for anything even if it is to go and get wood by the shed” Phil replied watching Tommy’s sad look turn in to an annoyed one in a matter of a few seconds. The boy raised his hand up and wiped his stuffy nose. Regretting not putting his scarf up for the couple of minutes he was out there in the cold. Tommy glanced over Phil’s shoulder and locked eyes with his hybrid brother turning the logs in the fireplace. Taking note of the look on his face of eavesdropping on them. He was so envious of him, of so much he could do on his own. How proud Dad was of him and his skills he has and has been taught. He wanted to be in his place, he wanted that recognition that his brother has earned through his hard work. He just wanted to know he was appreciated just as much as his brother was.
“How come Techno can go out on his own and I can’t”
“Because I know how to handle myself more then you, gremlin” Techno butted in as he set the turning rod back where it belonged. Knowing he was making Tommy more annoyed then he was with his words. He would be lying if he said he didn’t like the fire in his eyes when he riled him up. But he did know that Tommy wasn’t ready yet to take care of himself in many ways. Defending himself being one of them from the many he could think of.
“I have trained Techno for many years Tommy and I still am as well and you know that. He is more skilled in other ways and weapons then you are, that is why I trust him with that job because I know he can take care of himself more efficiently with the monsters outside. You just need a little more practice before I can fully ease myself with you being out there on you own” Phil watched as Tommy rolled his eyes slightly, acting like Phil couldn’t see him but he did in fact see his expression. He felt as thought Tommy was going through puberty a bit early with his attitude he has had recently. Maybe since he seen Will going through it he was wanting to as well to act like him. But this look was more jealousy then the looks he would get from Willbur.
“But it’s not fair, I want to be able to do things on my own as well. I’m not a baby any more Phil!....what’s the worst that could happen, getting a few injuries.....my first respawn happening?” Tommy asked, his arms out wide as he named off the possibilities he could think of. He watched his dad’s eyes widen to the last thing he mentioned. Wondering why exactly those words peaked his interest.
“Tommy you know I don’t want you having your first respawn at this age, those experiences shouldn’t happen-”
“Techno has already had his and I know it! You guys won’t say anything about it but I know what happened a couple of weeks ago! So what’s the problem with it then?” Tommy asked as he pointed over toward his brother standing there, about ready to walk back to the kitchen even where he was earlier. Yet once his name was mentioned and his accident that had happened, he knew Tommy was stepping over the line.
“Tommy-”
“If he could go through that then so can I-” Techno had had enough of his bickering. He stepped forward, feeling himself growing more and more impatient and annoyed by the second from his brother’s behavior. He stopped in his tracks, realizing Will’s arm was out stretched. The brunette looked over at him in his grayish blue orbs. Taking in the irritated look he was giving him, he understood why he was feeling this way. But a fight right now was not needed after a moment of worry they had. He heard Techno scoff at is attempt to stop him, yet noticed his breathing was calmed down some.
“You don’t want to experience your first death! It was hard for me to go through with that and I don’t speak about it because it was to traumatizing for me to even explain it Tommy!” Techno spoke up as he walked closer toward them standing there. Pushing past Wilbur’s arm that stood as a wall in his way, yet reminded him he shouldn’t be fighting at this second. He just wanted to defend Phil and himself in this argument that they were having even though he was the adult. His voice wasn’t angry or raised, it was stern and bold almost as if he was trying to stay calm toward his little brother. Tommy glanced over at him, shutting his mouth quickly upon hearing his words. Nothing scared the Blade, not even the monsters that roamed the night, not the enemies that fought in war stories dad told. Nothing ever did so knowing that death did truly meant that it was something he shouldn’t deal with at his age.
“Tommy when you’re older you’ll get to do more alright I promise. But for now I want you to be more careful and let us know when you do this again.....okay?” Phil asked as he stood up from the ground, eyes still on his youngest son standing there in silence. The room was filled with an uneasy feeling from all of them being on edge about this situation. The blonde boy’s head slowly turned back toward Phil. His eye was full of wonder as he tried to find the right words to say.
“Yes Phil I understand.....sorry”
“Don’t be sorry....you thought you were doing the right thing.....Like I said I appreciate you going and doing that, we did need more logs if I’m being honest. I’m proud of you okay....you just scared the living shit out of me mate and I don’t want to go through that ever again” Phil replied as he ruffled up Tommy’s hair, seeing his understanding eyes fill with gratefulness as he glanced up toward him. The blonde removed his coat quickly upon hearing his dad step away from him. Sighing softly of relieve as he made his way back over to the kitchen.
“Now then, Dinner is going to be done in a couple of minutes so come and get your drinks and take your seats at the table.” Phil called before disappearing in to the kitchen fully to finish up dinner. As the blonde set his boots away to the side he felt his hair be ruffled once more. He shot up from bending down, catching Wilbur slowly walking away from him with a small smile on his face. His proud look never faded, the look Tommy yearned for to know he truly did something right.
“I’m glad you are alright problem child”
“I’m not a child Wilbur!” Tommy called back as he watched him disappear in to the kitchen area like Phil had done. His sky blue orbs soon went over to his hybrid brother standing there. His stare was both full of irritated and confused gazes as he stood with his arms crossed around his chest. Tommy sighed as he ran his fingers through hair nervously. Not wanting to be on bad terms with his brother at this hour. He didn’t mean to bring him in on the small argument he was having with Dadza. He didn’t even mean to show his jealousy for him in the argument either. The boy soon walked forward some to him, his gaze down at the floor as he stopped a couple of feet in front of him. Yet as he was about ready to apologize his brother’s hand rested firmly on his shoulder. Tommy glanced up at Techno as he stared down at him, taking noticed of the smirk on his face.
“Come on....dinner’s almost done, don’t want your food to be cold now do we?” Techno asked as he dropped his scarred hand from his shoulder blade. Taking a couple of steps toward the dining hall before stopping. He gazed back toward Tommy that just stared in confusion behind him.
“You coming gremlin or what?”
“Does this mean you forgive me....and HEY I’m not a gremlin!”
“Fine....problem child”
“I’M NOT A CHILD!” Tommy yelled as he chased after his older brother that laughed warmly.
“Yes you are Tommy” The brunette butted in as he set drinks down at the table. Making the blonde mischievous child groan in sadness to the name they were giving him.
“You’re all children! *laughs* Now eat your food before it get’s cold. I don’t want to hear you complaining like yesterday” Phil called over all of them, shutting the debate on names down as soon as he set down some Chicken and potatoes on the table out in front of the hungry trio. The blonde watched as Wilbur grabbed the fork immediately and started to cut in tot he chicken while Techno grabbed his baked potato he wanted. The blonde smiled to himself as he watched his brother grab a potato for him as well. The small smile on his face told all when he flashed him smirk before digging in to his own food. Showing that they were on good terms,
“Do you want some butter for your potato Tommy?” Phil asked, earning Tommy’s attention. The boy nodded his head and watched as Dadza took his plate. Smearing the butter all over his baked potato just how he liked it. The blonde nodded his head in gratitude before digging in to his own well cooked meal in front of him. Maybe there were some aspects to not being independent just yet. Some things he would enjoy before being on his own once he grows up.
