AHhhhh
I'm going to start my life now. Holy shit =DÂ
Do not believe in what you have heard; do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations; do not believe anything because it is rumoured and spoken of by many; do not believe merely because the written statement of some old sage is produced; do not believe in conjectures; do not believe merely in the authority of your teachers and elders. After observation and analysis, when it agrees with reason and it is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

See, I thought that being honest was okay. So I told her I was alone and honestly thought I would die that way. Which in turn, turned into some giant catastrophic mess. And then I debated it and the only reason I think that is because I thought my mom was, and it was in our genetics. What the fuck do I know though? I'm like 12. Or 21. Oh well.Â

Rhythms of starlight, melodies of astrophysics
Ever wondered what the music of the cosmos sounds like? Youâre about to find out. Astrophysicist and TED Senior Fellow Lucianne Walkowicz works on the Kepler mission, looking at a patch of our galaxy to learn about stars and their planets. Here, she tells us how this is done:
Stars periodically appear brighter and darker on their own because they have bright and dark patches on their surfaces caused by the starâs magnetic field. As it spins, we see light fluctuate as the patches rotate into and out of view â and the frequency of the fluctuation tells us how fast itâs spinning. To make things a bit more complicated, stars donât rotate exactly like tops, in that different latitudes on the star spin at different rates â so usually there are several frequencies in the starâs light, and they can change and drift in time. I take the data and search for which frequencies are present at different times, then scale them to frequencies the human ear can hear, using a sine-wave generator. Then I create tones that change with time to represent how the frequencies in the star are changing. A first pass sounds like this: in each second of playback, you hear the three strongest frequencies in the star for a day of real time. As you listen, the sounds change as the frequencies change. Then I do some additional processing to get the effect I want. Usually I want to capture some echo to convey a sense of vast space, and some blending between notes to convey the dynamic nature of the features on the starâs surface that are creating the changes in the starâs light. In Powerful Protectors Iâve woven the sounds of two stars in with samples of Buddhist chanting around the world. The composition is about how people try to access deeper knowledge about our universe.

âHe screams, and thereâs nothing. No one rescues him. He gets held very tightly by someone he loves, and I think thatâs what Ishiguro is trying to say: We have very short time here, and love as much as you can, and love as many people as you can. Hold on to the people who mean something. I think thatâs a microcosm of what heâs talking about. Itâs very simplistic. People say itâs much deeper or richer than that, but if you wanted to sum it up, you could probably sum it up in that way.â - Andrew Garfield

10 States That Illegally Make Sodomy Illegal â And The 4 That Do Only If Youâre Gay
by DAVID BADASH on MARCH 9, 2012
Despite the landmark Supreme Court Lawrence v. Texas case that invalidated anti-sodomy laws and, therefore, essentially made sodomy legal, there are still 14 states in the country where sodomy is on the books as âillegal,â plus an additional four where sodomy is illegal only if youâre gay.
Mother Jones notes: All Sodomy Outlawed: Idaho, Utah, Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana Just for gays: Montana, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas.
âTexas isnât the only state thatâs still legislating bedroom activity,â Tim Murphy wrote atMother Jones last year. âFourteen states currently have laws on the books outlawing anal sex between two consenting, unrelated adultsâreferred to variously as âdeviate sexual conduct,â âthe infamous crime against nature,â âsodomy,â and âbuggery. And itâs taken a concerted effort to keep those laws on the books. Since Lawrence, efforts to formally repeal laws in Montana, Kansas, Utah, Louisiana, North Carolina, and, most notably, Texas have all faced resistance before fizzling out in their respective state legislatures. Conservatives in those states know they canât enforce the laws, but by keeping them in the code, they can send a message that homosexuality is officially condemned by the government.â
Andrew Sullivan on Thursday offered two short related clips which are worth the quick read, including Barry Deutschâs:
For me, the fact that Lawrence and Garner hadnât actually been having sex when they were arrested perfectly illustrates the real meaning of anti-sodomy laws. The cops didnât really witness any sex going on, but they did recognize that the men were gay, and that was reason enough for the cops to arrest the men. This is sodomy laws at their most pure: Itâs not about stopping sex, itâs about criminalizing existing while homosexual.
And thatâs exactly the problem: The radical right â which isnât that many people, but they are the ones who hold the power â still believe we are criminals and sinners. Because their Bibles tell them we are.
