If I Say No
It doesnât mean âchange my mind.â
It doesnât mean I owe you an explanation.
It doesnât mean you have the right to get angry at me.
It doesnât mean you can guilt me.
No means no. Simple as that.

Friendly Reminder
Trauma survivors donât owe you an explanation. They donât have to tell you why theyâre traumatized, or explain to you in any way why they are the way they are.
It is their story to share. And you are not entitled to know the details.Â
Recovery is a process, Iâm not gonna lie, there are negatives. People like to act like recovery is an upward slope, but itâs not. There will be times where it feels like youâve gone back to square one. But donât let that discourage you. Because of your experiences and change, youâll come out a lot stronger than your peers. Strength is the best form of reward.
I guess itâs time to start fixing my shit.
Typical PTSD Day
Them: âAre you feeling okay?â Me while disassociating: âYep. Just tiredâ
Because no one can actually know I have ptsd.
âI desperately wish that my screams haunted you the way they haunt me.â

Things you should never say to a rape survivor
- âHow much had you had to drink?â - âWhat were you wearing?â - âYou know that part of town is a bad area.â - âIf I were you I woulda have kicked him in the balls.â - âIf youâd gotten a taxi homeâŚ.â - âYou should have screamed âfireâ instead.â - âDonât worry not all men are like this.â - âAre you sure he/she heard you say no?â
What else should you never say to a rape survivor?
âIt tears the humanity from your bones and leaves you with loose skin and rot.â
â
Iâve been thinking a lot about rape survivor testimonies that appear on the internet and so many of them say things like âi wasnât drunkâ or 'i wasnât wearing anything revealingâ which is cool for breaking stereotypes I guess, but it makes me feel so invalid.
when I was raped I was high, and Iâd been at a gig so I was wearing revealing clothes, and I chose to share a bed with the friend who raped me. and for a long time I thought that meant it wasnât really rape; it wasnât all his fault, I played a part too. if I hadnât smoked weed, if I hadnât worn a skirt, if I had let my other friend sleep on the bed with us then it wouldnât have happened.
a big âfuck youâ to the bitchy nurse at the hospital a few years ago when I drank bleach after being raped and she told me that Iâd never recover from the assault until I reported it to the police.
a big âfuck youâ to anyone that has ever made a rape victim feel bad for not having the courage to report their crime because that shit is hard and I love you and I know you are trying your best.
Just because your rape wasnât violent doesnât mean you arenât valid. Just because you didnât fight back or scream doesnât mean you arenât valid. You ARE valid. You can still be traumatized. You can still call yourself a rape survivor. However you feel is valid. Rape is rape. Just because you feel others have it worse doesnât mean what happened to you wasnât awful. Youâre allowed to feel how you feel.Â
For me, the thing about surviving rape is that...
⢠A part of me died that day ⢠I feel so ashamed of myself even though I know itâs not my fault ⢠no matter how well I do, one dream sends me back a million steps that Iâve worked hard to take. ⢠long after my body has healed my mind hasnât ⢠i canât tell anyone because theyâll judge me, wonât understand, shun me or do all three. ⢠I feel inadequate to other womyn ⢠I donât feel worthy of love sometimes ⢠Emotional intimacy scares me more then anything
âExplaining rape to someone that has never been raped, is like describing a colour to someone that has been blind since birth. Itâs nearly impossible.â
