Thinking again how much cooler it would have been if X-Men Apocalypse wasn't a reboot, and instead it was a New Mutants movie where they're forced to fight the original 4 brainwashed by Apocalypse.
Imagine if X-Men Apocalypse opened with Cyclops, Storm, Jean and Wolverine on a mission, they're making snarky jabs at each other and being badass while fighting some cult. Then it's revealed the cult was trying to bring back Apocalypse and now the X-Men have to fight him. Unfortunately they lose and are turned into his horsemen.
Cut to the first act where Kitty, Rogue, Iceman and Colossus are training the New Mutants while trying to figure out what happened to the others. The scene where Apocalypse arrives to kidnap Xavier is now more intense with the brainwashed X-Men. And instead of Havok, it is Colossus who ends up dying. Setting up Magik for her corruption arc to parallel dark Phoenix.
Now defeated and the X-Men captured, the New Mutants have no choice but to go ask Magneto for help. He will give them a hand, and by the end of the movie, as Xavier is dying, Eric will be given the title of new headmaster as Xavier's dying wish.
This would have been so much more rewarding and a perfect setup for a new generation of X-Men movies.
