“Miss Kai, I have been doing research and learned about Christmas. It seems it’s customary to give gifts to people who are close to you. You have been very kind to me so I thought it would be appropriate to get you a gift. J apologize for its tardiness.”

Kai's eyes widened a bit in surprise before she smiles brightly. * "Thank you so much, ducky. I'm sure I'll love it and don't apologize for that. I actually got you a few things too so I also apologize for rhe tardiness."
Dahlias eyes widen. “You got me something?” She asks cautiously
Kai nodded and smiled brightly. "Yeah come in. Come in before you freeze. I'll make us some hot chocolate and we'll open them together alright?"
Dahlia nods entering and rubbing her arm. It is quite cold and her league garb isn’t made for the cold. Guy had gotten her a Coat but she’s hesitant to use it, afraid of getting it dirty
Kai got her comfortable on the couch. Her apartment was still decorated for Christmas and smelled liked baked goods. "Would you like some cookies too, ducky? I just baked some." She spoke from the kitchen as she started to make them some hot chocolate.
“They don’t have sweeet potato or mango do they? I recently discovered I’m apparently allergic to them.” She replies breathing the scent of fresh baked cookies and all the decorations. It’s a bit overwhelming but I’m a way that makes her feel cozy
Kai giggled as she got a plate for her and brought it out on a tray with the hot chocolate. "No they don't but that's good to know so I don't send you to the hospital on accident." She sat the tray on the coffee table before starting to head out of the living room. "Alright I'm going to go grab your presents. I'll be right back." The woman spoke as she disappeared down the hall, coming back with two carefully wrapped gifts. "How have you been? I feel like I haven't seen you in forever cause I've been so busy."
Dahlia picks up one of the cookies, taking a bite. Her eyes go wide and light up at the sweet taste. “These cookies are delicious!” She exclaims before blushing and realizing how loud she’s being.
Kai grins "I'm glad you like them." She takes a seat by Dahlia and sets the present between them before reaching for a cookie herself before dunking it into her hot chocolate a couple of times. The alien tilted her head an swallowed her bite before speaking. "You know I don't mind when your loud, Dahlia. It makes me happy actually, just shows me that you're happy and excited." She gave a gentle reassuring smile to her.
Dahlias cheeks get a bit more flushed but she smiles up at Kai. She never got to bond with Talia as mother and daughter, but from watching other people with their families over the weeks she’s been in Gotham this is what she imagines it would feel like to have a mom. It’s warm and safe. She holds out the box for Kai. “Here. I hope you like it. I’m sorry I didn’t have anything to wrap it in so I used newspaper I found in the park.” She explains
Kai waved her hand dismissively as she carefully took the box. "Don't worry about that. I think this is cute plus I can keep it to use for my scrapbook as a backdrop. Thank you really. I hope you like yours too." She carefully slid the gifts over to her as she carefully unwrapped hers. "How were your holidays anyway? Do anything fun?"
“I mostly spent it watching people. Guy was on a mission and I didn’t want to take advantage of his kindness so I didn’t stay at the apartment while he wasn’t there.”
Kai paused at that and looked at her. "Where did you stay? Honey you could've come and stayed with me. Actually from now on whenever Guy is out of town I want you to come stay with me. I know you're perfectly capable of taking care of yourself but I still don't like the idea of you being on your own."
“I stayed in the park. Guy already told me I have to stay at his place even when he’s not there so I don’t have to stay in the street again. But I can come over if you want.”
Kai let out a sigh and took her hands into hers gently. She smiled at her softly and chuckled. "What am I going to do with you ducky?" The woman asked jokingly. "I would like if you come over when Guy is out of town. We can cook together again, make a whole little girl's trip of it."
Dahlia stiffens a bit at her question not realizing it’s said with fondness. “Am I too much trouble?”
Kai looks at her and bristles a bit. "What? No no no. I'm sorry. I worded that poorly. It's just something you say. You not any trouble at all. I love having you around. Never think you cause me any trouble. You're a joy, ducky."
Dahlia visibly relaxes at that. “Open your gift,” she urges eager to get the attention off herself and to see if Kai likes what she made. She’d carved her a small bird figure. A hummingbird to be exact. It goes with the bulldog she’d carved for Guy.
Kai was in aw as she looked over the figurine. "Oh Dahlia, it's beautiful. Thank you so much. I love it. I actually have the perfect place for it." She cooed with smile as she continued to look it over gently before getting up. The woman carefully set it in an empty nest with a larger humming bird on her mantle. "Tada!" She chirped as she came over to her and wrapped her arms around the girl. "It's us."
Dahlia gasps having not noticed the other hummingbird figure prior. She can’t help but let a small smile cross her face as she hugs Kai back shyly. “You really like it?”
Kai held her close and smiled softly. "Of course I do. It's beautiful and I love having little keepsakes from the people I love. I still need to make you a scrap book." She cooed softly. "Now it's your turn to open your presents.
