There’s quite an amazing story behind this photo that will make you reconsider your doubts about k-drama’s and how accurate they really are.
I haven’t been on tumblr in forever but just really wanted to share this experience with everyone.
I went to Korea in May 23rd - 31st, 2017 right yes I went to D2 for EXO’rDIUM I went solo and was my first trip alone anywhere. I stayed in Hongdae. It was here that my first experience took place. It was like a scene right out of a kdrama, I kid you not!
I had just arrived and couldn't find my hostel anywhere. Let me mention as soon as I finally got out of the underground since I arrived, guess what? It was raining.
I ended up being soaked and lost and the sun was setting. It set by the time I got to my room. I originally told my host to expect me by 5pm, but sadly I was so lost, alone and by the time I actually got into my own room it was past 8pm.
So here’s what happened. I asked for directions to several people and no one knew. I asked one guy on break standing outside a restaurant smoking. Another worker also in a black shirt with the word in bold white letters that read STAFF approached me and said I could try going up this way and that. I thanked him and walked away, I got to the end of the block when I was tapped on the shoulder and he had apparently caught up with me and had an umbrella. He said he would help me find it.
+++ I’ll admit I had my doubts for his intentions because hey common sense here people, don’t be too trusting and your safety is key. But after a few minutes I felt like hey I’m not very pretty I think I’m considered overweight to Koreans so I will still be careful but he seems sincere. I think my host was worried when I told him a young man was helping me because he quickly said not to go any further and he’d be there soon. But it all worked out okay in the end.
He was the sweetest and kept holding the umbrella over my head and finally had me carry it so he could take my luggage. I tried to hold it over both of us but he kept saying “No no you, don't worry about me.” He had to tell me this like 4 times until I finally listened. He would grab my arm and wrist to keep me from stepping in puddles. I am not exaggerating one bit. I feel silly even saying it now.
He couldn't find it and we went into this one place that was a small pharmacy and he asked for help. My phone was dying and had no wifi. We were both soaked yet he was soooooo sweet and kind and kept walking and walking and he was getting all wet. He asked people for directions and tried his hardest. At one point he asked for me to wait under this entrance while he went to ask for help. He was gone for like 10 minutes and I was nearly thinking that he had given up and abandoned me no lol but he came back.
In that time I managed to get ahold of my host and tell him the situation I was in and he came to meet me and told me to stay put. +++Can I just add I discovered we walked past my hostel at least a good 4 times, it was that hidden.
I managed to gain the courage to ask for a selfie with my hero before he left and he said “of course!”
So here’s the story, that no one will probably take time to read, behind this photo. I was considering blotching out my face because ew but don’t feel like it so there.
The END
