My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". Be a dictator about it, plan your hangouts like they are binding commitments. No excuses! Go to the bar with your friends. Be kinda hungover at work. Socializing is like exercise; even if you don't feel like you want to, you should still do it because it's good for you.

The thing about death of the author is I don't think you can apply it in ignorance. It's a deliberate choice you make. If you choose to reject the author's intent and substitute your own, you must first acknowledge what the author's intent was, and that means rejecting it says something about you. For a specific but nonspecific example, if you see a character that the author intends to be read as a transgender woman, and you go looking for a possible alternate interpretation... that's not a meaningless choice. Why are you rejecting that reading? What kind of person would?

It's kinda funny, the original point of the phrase was supposed to be about how you can find MORE meaning in a story than the author intended, and now most people seem to use it to be able the exclusion of the author's intent once you know it. We went from being like, "Even if the author didn't mean for X about a character to be relatable, I found personal meaning in it" to "The author has stated their intent on this one detail I was deliberately ignoring about the work I otherwise liked, and so they are wrong and I'm mad about it."
