Mark making self portrait (more terrifying than I intended for it to be)

My poster is about the Church of England advising schools to let children wear what they want regardless of gender (and all of the weird anger surrounding that advice) I mostly chose this topic because I was trying to find inspiration for my poster in newspapers and this issue was discussed in several of them, but finding information about it ended up being pretty interesting/enjoyable. I liked the idea of having different opinions on either side of the poster and showing how newspapers can sway the way people feel about things.

My artist research poster is pretty boring because I don’t understand illustrator but I enjoyed finding out more about Nicole Eisenman and looking at her work.

I thought gender/ethnicity pay gaps would be a good subject to make an infographic about. The percentage that the pound coins are coloured in corresponds to the amount different women are paid for doing the same jobs as white men. The average pay gap between men and women is around 20p per hour so the woman in the infographic is 20% smaller than the man.

16 out of 26 was the best I could do with finding stuff that looks like letters.

First self portrait I’ve done that actually has a face in it. I’m bad at drawing people but this kind of looks like me so I’m considering it a success.

I though it would be interesting to draw a self portrait that represented me trying to make art. This usually involves either being tired because it takes me forever to do anything, or being fed up because things aren’t going the way I wanted them too. I wanted the background to contrast with the detailed pencil drawing of myself so in the first I drew a basic background using fine liner and in the second a made a colourful background using pastels.

Artwork based on old family photographs, the first two are watercolour paintings and are both fairly basic but I think they’re alright considering I’m pretty new to painting in general. The third is a photoshop tracing of a photograph and the other two are variations on that piece, one where parts are replaced with cut out pieces of the original photo and one where the people are in colour and the background is black and white.

I mostly enjoyed working in ceramics even though I wasn’t really happy with any of my work. Hopefully I’ll get better at it over time.

Artist research

These are three pieces of research I did on screen print artists (Patrick Caulfield, David Hockney, Alex Katz) I had a little bit of trouble finding screen print artists that I actually liked but I found these three interesting.
