have you read Ive Seen Better Days (i think by BengietBenny or smth on ao3) because it’s a zukka +the gaang road trip story and one of the best zukka fics (or fics in general) i’ve ever read. the characterizations can be a little weird at first for some characters because it’s a modern au and some things don’t always transfer well over because of it, but the writing is so spectacular i don’t even care lol

Summary:

Much like many sixteen year olds, Aang got a car for his birthday. Unlike every other sixteen year old Sokka had met in his seventeen going on eighteen years of life, the monks who raised Aang insisted it was for a life changing journey across two continents. Maybe Sokka was exaggerating. Maybe Zuko wore those cute bright dolphin shorts exclusively for Sokka's benefit. Maybe Sokka was exaggerating that too.

Or; It takes Zuko running away and seeing the world to learn what family means. Sokka already knew what it felt like. It takes Sokka a minor concussion to know what home feels like. Zuko already knew what it meant.

Summary:

Sokka just grins and shrugs, elbowing Zuko gently in the side. They stay on the roof tracing patterns in the sky until the sun begins to rise and drown out the heavens in its light. When they climb down from the roof, Sokka still holding out his hand to help Zuko, Zuko realizes he hasn’t thought about work at all.

(A post-canon fic where Ambassador Sokka and Fire Lord Zuko write each other letters and watch the stars.)

Zuko and Sokka have been engaged to be married since the peace talks. Only they were the only ones who didn't know.

Everyone else thought they not only knew but that they had already been dating the entire time.

This is also news to Zuko and Sokka who have definitely NOT been dating but maybe they aren't as uninterested as they are protesting

Summary:

Life can be pretty hard living in a city under a totalitarian regime. Between adhering to the ridiculous curfew, keeping himself from being gunned down by a passing patrolman, and paying his unnecessary tolls to the state for, say, breathing, Sokka has his hands full just getting to work. Add aiding a resistance group on top of that, and Sokka should really be getting paid for this.

Then, one night, Sokka finds an injured patrolman collapsed in the street, who tells him with blood on his lips, “If the patrol finds me, I’m dead.”

He was surly and shut off, Sokka had never known him to have guests in the year he’d lived next door, but he tended to the plants on his balcony with tenderness and he sang indie love songs alone in his kitchen. Despite his hard edges and dour expressions, there was a softness to him too.

Zuko stiffens but scoffs at him in the same volume. “You think I have nothing better to do?” he says, and the two break apart, both brandishing false grins at the other.

This fake friendship thing is going to be... interesting.
