MORE THAN A VANCOUVER SUNSET: M. BARZAL

Emma was sitting at the beach, a bonfire burning behind her with a bunch of former classmates tucked all around it. The sun was low on the horizon, casting an orange hue over her bare legs. She was sitting on a picnic blanket with her friend Beth who she’d somehow convinced to come along, even if she didn’t know any of the people there. Emma’s pack of best friends hadn’t arrived home for the summer yet, and there was no way she was going to this ‘start of summer bonfire’ thing by herself. Beth would have to come whether she wanted to or not; Emma hadn’t seen any of these people since graduation and she really needed the moral support.
A familiar sound had her turning her head just enough to look over her shoulder, a smile already grazing her lips. Mat - of course.
