"I'm fine, Kai," Lloyd muttered, though he didn't pull away.
"You're not fine. You're a statue," Kai countered. Before Lloyd could protest, Kai’s hands darted out, finding the sensitive spots just beneath Lloyd’s ribs. Lloyd let out a startled, high-pitched squeak, his entire body jerking as he tried to scramble away, his stoic mask shattering instantly into a fit of uncontrollable giggles.
"K-Kai! St-stop!" Lloyd gasped, his face flushing a bright red as he curled into a ball, trying to protect his sides.
"Not until you loosen up," Kai laughed, his own eyes bright with amusement as he continued to poke and tickle, relentless in his mission to force a smile onto his brother’s face. He knew that for a hero who carried the fate of Ninjago on his shoulders, sometimes the only way to remind him that he was still just a kid was to make him laugh until he couldn't breathe.
Lloyd was squirming frantically, his laughter echoing off the walls of the training room. "I h-hate you!" he wheezed, though the wide, genuine grin on his face betrayed him completely.
"Yeah, yeah, tell me that when you're actually having fun," Kai teased, finally pulling back just enough to let Lloyd catch his breath. The tension that had been coiled in Lloyd’s frame had evaporated, replaced by the lighthearted energy of a brotherly bond that had survived possession, war, and everything in between. Kai ruffled Lloyd’s hair, satisfied to see the weight lifted, even if only for a moment.
