I forgot that between Black Elk's nephew translating for him, and this recording and edit by a white man, Black Elk's words became somewhat Christianized. Read the foreward and could identify almost exactly where in the Bible comparisons were 'drawn'.

This... might be a frustrating read now that I have more context of values as described in the Bible and followed by Christian missionaries

this actually has me pondering the ethics of translation & wondering, if we'd had a written form of Lakota, would there have been as many different imperfect translations to reference to maybe understand the truth of what was being said? Or would the writings have been burned, as had been the case with a... Brazilian tribe, I think? Central or South American, I know that.

I think I know the answer, on that alone. Ranchers sure didn't give a fuck about destroying portions of the physical history Indigenous peoples left behind, given how often someone's grandpa collected items for personal ogling. Archaeologists and anthropologists didn't start to question their own ethics until the last 50 years, if I'm being generous. And that's not mentioning your everyday person, who either thinks we'd been annihilated, are still savages, or are otherwise racist if they aren't mindful of it (a general statement, but one that I've seen as fairly true among those who aren't also colonized peoples).

Half-asleep thoughts on something below (content warning: tokophobia. I am not pregnant, just mulling over something I saw online & rambling. The thing I saw was seriously weird and enlightening, pls heed the warning)

I recently saw a video where a pregnant woman described pregnancy as feeling similar holding a frog between your hands, and that. Affirmed that I do not want to experience pregnanccy lmao. Thankful to anything that listens for birth control, for the Nth time.

I think recent occurences of baby fever that have come after processing [trauma things] are (pun not intended) born of a craving for emotional intimacy and closeness to loved ones (my wife, family, etc) and hormones for sure bc I was thinking about it and both times weren't so long before I got my period.

So... beyond my disinterest for experiencing frog-between-hands-but-in-the-abdomen, note to self: if experiencing baby fever, seek opportunity for connection to loved ones.

Saw a tweet about leftist revolutionary ethics and in it, the author said something about the "when the revolution happens" like its a one-and-done thing worldwide. Nothing irritates me more in revolutionary conversations than the fucking. Rapture-esque way that it gets talked about. The world is always evolving, please look at a timeline and a map for once in your life. My god.
