i saw the revamped scenes for bad things and i dooo not like how the game instantly jumps to "you are a terrible friend" at scene 1. the game's progression is in ivan's pov and the abuse shown was subtle yet there if you paid attention
the original doesnt tell you anything about ivan and andrew's relationship, just that theyre friends. it shows how their rs has devolved over time into something toxic and abusive and the og did an amazing job at showing that without shoving it to the player's face
its up to the player to learn ivan was not a good friend as the game progresses. and its so effective in showing how seemingly healthy relationships turn abusive over time. this immediate jump right at the beginning to make ivan a bad person weakens the game's entire theme
bad thing's charm for me was how "show dont tell" it is. its vague but the message is there. you HAVE to closely watch how ivan and andrew's relationship has decayed without going "ivan is the bad guy!" directly to you. it relies on you to critically analyze their relationship and see where it went wrong then come to the conclusion that ivan is heavily flawed with his own issues that led to him abusing andrew. this does not excuse his actions. what im saying is that he's extremely, EXTREMELY morally gray. outright stating hes bad at the beginning completely removes that which is what i mostly liked about the game im sorry
EDIT: hes always been a bad person -- i get that!!! and the update making that clearer was lwk needed with how apparently people didnt know andrew was being abused before the update ...????????? i appreciate the devs for making that even clearer! i just prefer when it was more "vague" about it. but like. come on. andrew has explicitly stated ivan abused him in chapter 15. are you serious. did these people play the game with their eyes closed and brains off
