Eliza has said, in regards to her marriage, that “[She and Bob] weren’t trying to break the internet.” Truth be told, I always thought it was a bit of an odd detail to say. But if it’s true that Jason resented the attention and love Beliza’s marriage received from fans, well…it all makes sense then, doesn’t it? The bts story ties together with a grotesque bow.
Bob and Eliza fell in love, got married, and announced it to the world. Consequently, Jason systemically dismantled Bellamy, Clarke, and Bellarke as recompense for his bruised planet-sized ego and his reluctant loss of absolute control.
Bellarke and its character constituents suffered because they existed at the mercy of a man-child undergoing the mother of all temper tantrums. An exercise in megalomania over two real people choosing to carve out some happiness for themselves in this short, often bleak life, by denying their fictional counterparts the same resolution. And he made sure we, the fans supporting all his targets, knew it.
Who would have thought that on a show with betrayal and murder as thematic cornerstones within the narrative and between character dynamics, the most heinous of the lot would come from its puerile showrunner? How very Doylist of him.

Now that I think about it, it’s starting to make sense why, towards the end of filming, some cast members pointed to Beliza’s marriage when asked about Bellarke’s fate. They knew the dumpster fire we were in for. It was an evasive maneuver from spoilers and meant to assuage us when we would come to realize what was scripted.
