it sickens me that there are so many men that simply never engage with anything made by women and they don't question it and they aren't questioned about it. they don't listen to music by women or read books written by women or watch movies written and directed by women or stop to look at paintings by women at museums and they're just allowed to go thru life never considering women as artists with no challenge or criticism whatsoever. meanwhile as a woman it's impossible to escape the male artistic point of view

last time i taught undergrads, we had just finished reading jane austen and i asked the class what they thought about the book. a guy raised his hand and said he found it really interesting to see how women think as he had never read a book by a woman before 🫩 i think about that a lot.

so last year i presented at a conference (virtually, thank god) with a literal ruptured appendix and they just reached out to me asking if i would want to submit my paper for publication in their conference proceeding because they were “highly impressed” by my presentation. this is hilarious to me because i was trying so hard to even sit upright and sound coherent. i think i sweat through my shirt.
