Just wrapped two iterations of my #ctsummit #creativetime @creativetimenyc workshop which was centered on what it means to ensure that our kids "stay woke". We spoke on Malcolm X, black mothers as midwives of critical thinking and textbooks. It was real cool. Thanks @creativetimenyc for the opportunity. Thank you @theearthwarrior for organizing this! Thank you @shanipeters @josephcuillier and many others for coming out!!
Presenting @creativetimenyc #creativetimesummit #ctsummit at 2pm and 315pm - How can we develop learning environments wherein young people think critically about history by considering other perspectives, missing voices, and biases? We will be discussing the scene in Spike Lee's Malcolm X film when Brother Baines introduces Detroit Red/Malcolm X to the dictionary as a starting point for understanding how knowledge is constructed and disseminated. We will also be sharing strategies for interrogating the history we are given and dreaming up ideal learning spaces for young folks to do the real work around exploring beyond the textbook.
Tonight 6pm @repairtheworld | 808 Nostrand Ave in Brooklyn - thanks @jonathanallenstudio for curating!
TONIGHT @ INTERFERENCE ARCHIVE (131 8TH STREET NO. 4, BROOKLYN, NY) Wednesday Nov. 4th, 7-9pm ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Panelists: Avram Finkelstein, Kameelah Janan Rasheed, and Dread Scott. The event will be moderated by Josh MacPhee. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Join us for a panel featuring artists, designers, and historians discussing the intersections of solidarity, propaganda, poster making, and image distribution. As part of the programming for our Armed By Design/El Diseño a las Armas exhibition, OSPAAAL will be referenced as a great example of this crossroads, but many other social movements will be discussed as well.
