Stand Up For Juice!

I was so excited to hear that the The Stand Juice Company was opening their third location in Westport (right next to Crate & Barrel). According to the founders, their mission is “providing good food and a better earth using the land to do so,” and their motto is “Life, Fueled by Plants.”  My favorite part of the story is the fact that the founders (couple Carissa & Mike) have a 15-acre farm (Hideaway Farm) on the banks of the Connecticut River. It is a working organic and sustainable farm; zero-waste, no-dig that uses the pulp and scrap produce from The Stand Juice Company to feed the herd of rescued farm animals. Their manure provides nutrient rich top soil for the fruits and vegetables the farm grows for The Stand Juice Company and other restaurants throughout Connecticut.

Westport Down Under

Sunday was gorgeous, sunny and the tide was high, so I decided to check out Down Under Surf Shop, right in the heart of Saugatuck. We paddled by a group of women doing yoga on their boards (very impressive) and waved at jet-skiers and kayakers. I wish we could pause Summer because Fall is just around the corner.

Old Mill Beach Art Show

We took a leisurely detour this Sunday morning to Clark Hanford’s annual Old Mill Beach Art Show. Clark is a local artist who was showing off his ‘wares’ in his beachside yard. We learned that Clark ordered the old car you see captured below on Ebay and had to sew a new buggy cover by hand (as it didn’t arrive with it).

We also strolled down to the water and met a father/son team who were out and very enthusiastically fishing….

A Summer Treat

For years I have been dying to experience the summer Westport Farmer’s Market, but the hours of operation (Thursdays, 10-2pm) always fall squarely in the middle of a work day. Well today my best co-worker and I finally slipped out at lunchtime to see what it was all about – We left with fresh corn, local peaches, a Cold Roman and a new furry friend!

'Angel-ade' Stand

Al’s Angels, a non-profit charitable organization founded by Westport, CT resident and digital marketing industry executive Al DiGuido, recently launched its first annual Al’s Angels “Angel-ade” initiative. The purpose is to raise donations and create awareness for Al’s Angels throughout the community. The lemonade products were donated by Newman’s Own and the team set up right outside the SoNo Baking Company.
