Nothing in your life was ever normal when your mother was the Queen of Hearts.ย
You had heard her scream, โOff with their heads!โ more often than she sang you a lullaby. When you were little, the Cards bent over backwards (quite literally) when you wanted to slide in the garden. Your world merely existed within the four walls of the red and black decorated palace.ย
But nothing couldโve possibly prepared you for today.ย
โPrincess Y/N, are you listening?โ You snapped out of your trance when you noticed that Madam McGonagall, the royal tutor, was waving a hand in front of your face.ย
You nodded in reply as you turned your attention away from the window, sitting up straighter in your seat, โYesโฆโย
She raised a brow at you, โWhat was the last concept I discussed?โย
In your peripheral vision, you could see Hermione, your lady-in-waiting, stifling a laugh from where she sat in the corner of the room.ย
โUhm.โ You stalled, trying to rack your brain for something that it couldโve subconsciously picked up, โTaxation Laws?โย
Madam McGonagall sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose in exasperation, because who would dare to berate the Princess of Heart without having their chopped off by the Queen, โYour Highness, youโre mother insists that you learn about basic physics so I suggest to place your undivided attention on this. Now, as I was sayingโฆโย

โY/N, are you okay? You seem to be distracted.โ Hermione voiced her concern once the two of you were left alone in the library.
Out of all the palace staff, Hermione (besides your mother of course) was the only one permitted to address you without any formal titles. Something you insisted on since you first met her back when you were both 11.
A shiver ran down your spine as you recalled the earlier conversation with your mother, โThey want me to get married โMione.โย
โI mean eventually, you are expected to-โ Hermione started to say before you interrupted.
โNot eventually, they want me to get married in six months. Theyโre arranging a ball to find me a husband as we speak.โ
This was the first time you had ever seen Hermione Granger at a lost for words.
With a sigh, you turned your attention back to the window which gave you an overlooking view of the garden adorned with thousands of red roses.
โIโm barely 20, how can they expect me to get married?โ You said, fiddling with the locket given by your late father, โAnd to someone I donโt even know nor care about.โ
Hermione gave a sad smile, โThatโs just the way life is sometimes.โย
Silence fell between the two as Y/N continued to watch the falling leaves dance in the wind.
โYou know what โMione?โ You suddenly said, turning your attention back to your lady-in-waiting, โThat might be how someone elseโs life would go, but certainly not mine.โย
She frowned, โWhat do you mean?โย
Pointing towards the window, you said, โAll my life, the farthest Iโve gone out of the palace is up to those gardens.I want to go beyond them. I want to see what Wonderland truly has to offer!โ
โBut your mother, the Queen wouldnโt approve-โ
โAnd who said anything about asking permission?โ

โI still think that this is a really terrible idea.โ Hermione chimed in as she helped you with the finishing touches of your disguise.
The two of you figured that best way for you to freely roam the weekend without the Press or your mother getting alerted was to blend in.ย
โRelax โMione,โ you reassured her as you both made your way to the backdoor that led to the gardens, โWeโve planned this out properly.โย
The Queen of Hearts never really looked for nor required your presence until it was dinner time.
So, you had to be back at the palace by 7 pm. But aside from that? Nothing was standing in your way.

โI never knew everything outside would be soโฆ colorful.โ You said in awe after passing by the singing flowers.
Hermione giggled, finishing up the ice cream both of you had bought earlier, โThatโs just because youโre used to seeing red and black.โย
You sighed happily, โI canโt believe that my mother never let me go out and see this. Itโs all so beautiful.โ
Hermioneโs reply was cut off when a force suddenly knocked you off your feet.ย
You wouldโve fallen into the mud if someone hadnโt caught you just in time.
Looking up at your saviour, the first thing that caught your attention was the ginger hair.
Then the top hat with a maroon scarf that went around it and the cheeky smile.
โWeโve just met and you seem to be falling for me already. Iโm Fred Weasley.โย

hello! I know that I just went back to writing and all (and put up a series for Remus). Yet, during my hiatus before, I did started working on an original novel which is in progress.
Between school almost getting back in session and writing above-mentioned novel, Iโve been feeling a bit burned out in terms of fic writing that I struggle with trying to get the words out.
