"i asked chat gpt-"
well I asked the Glow Cloud (all hail) and it emitted a low whistleing and dropped a lizard on my head.
thinking about how ursula k leguin said "what goes too long unchanged destroys itself. The forest is forever because it dies and dies and so lives" and how everyday i wake up slightly different and i can feel myself shed the skin of who i used to be slowly, slowly, until i look back and can scarcely recognise who i was... but also she is still a part of me, part of the leaf litter and the humus, supporting me as i send new roots down and new leaves stretching up to the sunlight
You've been kidnapped but the main character of the last TV show you watched is coming to rescue you.
Who’s rescuing you?
Oh yeah, I’m good.
Christopher Pike so like. I’ll probably be saved but you just KNOW he will have to go on a rant jerking off the ideals of the United Federation Of Planets/Starfleet the entire time he’s rescuing me, because if he doesn’t meet his minimum requirement of kissing ass to the state or being ableist or xenophobic to space lizards per episode he will die (and he has to live to complete the time loop prophecy/protect the “canon” and confront his ableist fears)
I'm so safe
I do enjoy a good visual gag, and an old favorite of mine is “there is Math on a Board in the background that contextually makes no sense.” This broadly comes in 3 flavors I enjoy:
• the board is in front of a classroom, and the Math is waaay too advanced for whatever level of pupil these kids are supposed to be; like having the calculus integral in front of kindergartners, or relativistic physics in front of high schoolers.
• the board is in front of Criminals, who are Planning Something, and by all rights there ought to be no Math there to begin with. Like. You’re planning a Heist why do you have the Full Lagrangian on there. Are we taking a rocket to the bank.
• the characters are super-genius science fiction people. The Math is “Pi≈3.24” with an unlabeled pie chart.
i know it's been said on here and said again but people do so desperately need to genuinely do intentional work to build distress tolerance and start figuring out how to recognize the differences between danger, discomfort, and when a situation that is merely uncomfortable is triggering an emotional flashback in your bodies because it resembles a past situation that actually was dangerous which makes it difficult to realize/believe that this moment is merely uncomfortable.
i spoke to an allistic person who said their autistic classmate had a meltdown in class, during which the autistic classmate collapsed to the floor in the middle of the room, screaming and crying. they said it was "terrifying" and they were arguing for the autistic student to be removed permanently from the program.
when i asked whether their autistic classmate's meltdown was dangerous or merely uncomfortable, they said, "i felt like i was in danger!"
i understand that. but that's not what i asked.
"i shouldn't have to experience that."
yes you should, actually. that's life. upsetting things happen. no one should have to experience any discomfort. but we do. we get stung by bees and sunburns and headaches. we live in bodies in the world.
autistic people are human beings who have the right to exist in society, including during meltdowns. having one class of your entire semester interrupted by a singular meltdown is not anymore of an infringement upon your entitlement to education than having your class interrupted by a fire alarm or cancelled for a snow storm.
one of my peers once experienced a cardiac event 10 minutes into class. it was terrifying. it was desperately upsetting. i was contacted by the school and offered counseling afterward because i happened to be the one who managed the situation until paramedics arrived. no one should have to experience their classmate being hauled off in an ambulance, but it happens. everyone was worried about my classmate first and foremost, and then about me. no one blamed anyone, and certainly when my classmate happily recovered and returned to school, no one thought they should be removed from the program.
the difference being that people believe a disabled personal, especially with cognitive disabilities, in crisis are not experiencing something outside of our control, but instead that we doing something. that we are in fact making a choice to cause a scene, out of malice.
i trust you two more than anything

These individuals tend to have their head in the clouds, and are reported to prefer the escapism of fiction over reality.

It’s so important to practice, practice, practice
EVERYBODY post your struggle/lazy/easy/low spoons go-to meals so when we all struggle next we can explore the notes.
Flavored brats/sausages with cheese or fruit etc can be delicious air-fried and plain, and wrapped in a paper towel and eaten by hand without dirtying plates and cutlery. (If you’re up to it, add buns/side/toppings to your ability level.)
Hey I’ve been having a lot of generalized fatigue recently and I appreciate the notes on this post, so I thought I’d put it back in circulation.
microwave a potato for ten minutes, then cut into chunks and smash on an olive oil-ed baking sheet. Bake in oven for 20 minutes at approx. 450 F with other veggie of your choice. Salt and spice/ top with whatever you like, I did chili oil today. Nutritionally reasonable and vegetarian
Rice made in the rice cooker, using whatever carton of broth I have on hand. Add some butter, mix an egg into it, and microwave for a minute to make sure the egg is cooked. Top with shredded cheese if you want.
• Jar of spaghetti sauce + noodles. Cook noodles directly in the sauce. Sneak in vegetables (I've noticed that frozen broccoli or squash are hella good like this). If spoons are higher, cook meat of choice in pot first, then add sauce and noodles. A handful of spinach cooked in is a hit for me.
• Magic grilled cheese easy mode: make your grilled cheese, but add some seasonings (I like red pepper flakes, onion powder, and black pepper), a lil minced garlic to the skillet, and a drizzle of honey on the bread while toasting it. Higher funds/spoons = use 2-3 different cheeses, add a protein like turkey slices or a fried egg.
• Cook favorite canned or leftover soup with pasta + cheese. Really good when your body is low on carbs/energy. Can throw in extra vegetables, olives, seasoning, etc. Mac & cheese or cheesy rice + soup or veggies or meat can also really hit on a bad day. Add less water when cooking to sub for soup.
• Rice and bullshit will save you. ALWAYS RINSE YOUR RICE 2-3 TIMES BEFORE COOKING. Cook it with broth, soup, whatever. Add your fresh or frozen vegetables before cooking. If you dice up meat tiny, it can safely cook in the rice, or even throw in scrambled egg or cook an egg in the rice. SEASON YOUR DAMN RICE. Teriyaki or suazan are hella nice when you don't know what you wanna add. I like to throw it all together in my instant pot and walk away to rest while it cooks. If you overcook it, cool, you have porridge now, also yummy.
Smoothies will fucking save you. I like banana and spinach as a base and then throw in whatever other fruits I have. I hate milk personally and sub milk for carrot juice, yogurt, v8, flavored electrolyte drinks, or cold coffee. Smoothies have endless possibilities and are easy to personalize with added seasonings, vanilla, oatmeal, (brown) sugar, honey, cereal or oat crumbles, or even shredded carrots.
• Prepare for low spoon days you expect to come up. Cook some chicken/bacon/protein and bag it in single serve amounts. Fridge or freeze that stuff so it's ready to go later. Keep rice, noodles, or instant potatoes on hand. If you don't use all of a fruit, potatoes, or veggies you have on hand, see what you can cook and freeze for later. If you like a particular blend of seasonings, make that blend and keep it in its own jar/shaker/whatever so it's ready to go on days you don't wanna think. If you've been feeling dehydrated, make sure you have more iodized (iodinized? whatever) salt in your diet. Increase your electrolytes by eating cucumbers, pickles, watermelon, greek yogurt, avocado, bananas, spinach, miso paste, etc. A lot of these can be added to various dishes, and cooking them doesn't reduce the benefits.
