Read any skincare forum or thread and you’ll see countless women who are absolutely petrified of aging- compulsively apply and reapplying $100s of skincare products, terrified to step into the sun even with SPF 75 being reapplied every 20 minutes, paranoid about their pillowcase, horrified that they have facial expressions that might cause a wrinkle, analyzing every bite of food and subscribing to whatever cocktail of overpriced supplements are being promoted by vogue or Elle as anti aging secret weapons. It’s so sad. It’s gone so far beyond preventing skin cancer or staying hydrated. It’s an intense and all consuming terror at the thought of looking “old”- which literally means looking a day over 25. What’s wrong with aging? Why should I look 25 at 40? It isn’t possible, no matter how much time and money you sacrifice. We are all going to age. There’s nothing ugly or sloppy or gross about wrinkles or sagging. Your DNA gets damaged. We age. It’s okay. It makes me so sad to see women sacrificing their happiness and peace of mind during their youth in an attempt to preserve it artificially for as long as possible. Old women still matter. Your skin is not who you are.
