how do you do those backgrounds #question

(i think i already answered a question like this before but i can answer it again)

half of the time they’re from pure imagination while the other half of the time I use a reference. (Tho I recommend using references since they’re very helpful and will allow you to get more creative with your backgrounds)

OBSERVE:

I also use references for figuring out how shadows, lighting, and specific objects look and work. But for colors I just do whatever that makes it emit some sort of vibe I want (or just eye the colors from the reference .. its better than color picking trust)

object shows are (lovingly) so stupid bc like wdym theres a character who, when extremely upset, spawns a being created by her pure hatred and spite that is unstoppable and consumes others under its control. thats so cool. and then u look into the character and its name is evil leafy and its js a red leaf with a pissed off expression
